Coco Gauff, US tennis team ready for Bile Jan up Fils in Scland
This is it for Coco Gauff – the last event of a grueling 2022 season for the 18-year-old American tennis star.
Gauff hopes to go out with a stars-and-stripes bang in Scotland 먹튀검증before returning to South Florida for rest, relaxation and little more sun than found in Great Britain this time of year.
After having a rough time at last week’s WTA season-ending 먹튀검증사이트championships in Fort Worth, Texas, Gauff boarded a plane for Glasgow for a nine-hour flight to be one of five women to represent the United States in the Billie Jean Cup Finals (formerly known as The Fed Cup, women’s version of the Davis Cup).
It was a long haul, but Gauff is pumped even after losing 먹튀검증업체all three matches at the round-robin WTA event that invites the top 8 players.
“It’s definitely a trip, but finishing the year off on this note will be great for me,’’ Gauff told The Palm Beach Post in a phone interview from Glasgow. “

"Texas didn’t go the way I wanted it to go. That motivated me even more to come here, Gauff continued. "It’s very rare tennis experiences a team atmosphere. I played other team sports like basketball. That’s the one thing I did miss from playing (basketball). The Billie Jean Cup is what brings you closest to that.’’
The USA matches start Wednesday against Poland, then Friday against the Czech Republic. If USA advances, it will play in the semifinals Saturday. (The USA matches will be televised by Tennis Channel).
Despite her Texas troubles, Gauff, who turns 19 in March, was absolutely satisfied with her year. She will finish ranked 7th in the world.
In her breakthrough moment, Gauff took Paris by storm in marching to the French Open finals. At the US Open in September, Gauff advanced to her first quarterfinals with “Let’s Go Coco’’ chants echoing into the Flushing Meadows air. She became the youngest US woman to advance to the US Open quarters in 13 years.
All this during her first year with age restrictions lifted, allowing a full slate.
“Obviously it was a great year,’’ Gauff said. “I have a lot of high expectations for myself. Overall, I think it’s the best year of my career so far. It’s the most I’ve played tournament-wise. I hope next year is even better.’’
In Fort Worth, Gauff was 0-3, including losses to US Open champion Iga Swiatek and the eventual WTA champion Caroline Garcia, who also upended Gauff in Queens.

“It’s a tough event,’’ Gauff said. “For me, it was an adjustment, having to come back after a loss. Usually you have a couple of days to reset. I was playing every night because of doubles. It was mentally challenging.’’
Indeed it was also a slog for Jessica Pegula, a Boca Raton, Florida, resident and top-ranked American who also went 0-3, then withdrew her name from the Billie Jean Cup. No kilts for Pegula.
Gauff, two other Floridians on US team
Gauff is joined by Madison Keys, who lives in Orlando, Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg resident), Taylor Townsend and Caty McNally, Gauff’s former doubles partner.
“I wouldn’t have come here if I couldn’t give 100 percent to the team,’’ Gauff said. “That was part of Jess’ decision. Pretty brave to step away when you know you’re not at your best. Texas was a lot, but it’s in the past.’’
USA captain Kathy Rinaldi praised Gauff’s willingness to volunteer her services after Texas.
“Very thankful Coco is coming,’’ Rinaldi said. “Great effort on her part. It’s a long year for all these players. It’s quick turnaround. When you play for your country, the adrenaline kicks in. It’s a fun week. I hope to make it a fun week for Coco.’’
Gauff said she may try on one of the traditional kilts.
“I haven’t gotten into a kilt yet but I know Taylor’s coach was getting fitted for one,’’ Gauff said.
USA has won 18 Fed Cup/BJK Cup titles and has the talent to do so again. Rinaldi credited the Williams sisters for having four Americans in the top 15.
“I’m super exited,’’ Gauff said. “I wouldn’t have come here if I didn’t think we had a shot to win. Playing for your country is a privilege I don’t want to take for granted. It would mean a lot if we can lift a trophy here.’’
After that, Gauff will return to Delray Beach, Florida, put down her racket for a couple of weeks and savor her 2022 accomplishments.

Michael Johnson and Clay Guida both entered their preliminary-card matchups as sizable underdogs. Experience often can be underestimated, though, and the pair of veteran lightweights used poise to emerge victorious.
After getting slightly outgunned by Marc Diakiese in the first 먹튀검증사이트round, Johnson (21-18 MMA, 13-14 UFC) settled in to his groove in the second and third frame. He racked up points to get the unanimous decision, coming out with a 먹튀검증업체much-needed win to push his octagon record closer to .500 than it’s been in some time.
We know the story of Johnson’s career, and how good he’s looked in memorable wins against the likes of Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson. At 36, the 먹튀사이트days of thinking those victories will be parlayed into a title run are over. What Johnson still can do, however, is give competitive fights to the next wave of lightweights.
The 41-year-old Guida (38-22 MMA, 18-16 UFC), meanwhile, 먹튀검증커뮤니티didn’t prove quite the same point as Johnson in terms of the matchmaking. He got a split decision over a version of Scott Holtzman who came into the fight with designs on retirement, and although he looked solid, there wasn’t much surprising about the way in which Guida won – using his wrestling.
After seeing Darren Elkins get mauled to a bloody pulp by Jonathan Pearce in the fight prior on the card, it was nice to see Johnson and Guida come through with their hands raised.
4. Roman Dolidze arrives at 185

I’ve been praising Roman Dolidze as a surging threat in this column after his past few wins, and he took the next step in living up to that with an impressive finish of Jack Hermansson.
Hermansson is one of the most experienced names in the UFC middleweight division. He’s fought many of the best, so it was a big ask from Dolidze (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) to step into this matchup on just 11 days’ notice. He pounced on the opportunity, then pounced on Hermansson in the octagon.
Not only did Dolidze look more than deserving to be in the octagon with Hermansson, but he looked a level above, too, in putting the Swede in a dead-to-rights position to end it. Dolidze’s trap of the leg using the calf slicer technique was beautiful, and his awareness to pin Hermansson to the mat while delivering the finishing blows was a big statement.
Dolidze seems like he’s going to be a factor at 185 pounds in the near future, and hopefully the UFC gives him another entrenched top-10 name so we can get a further read on his ceiling.
3. Sergei Pavlovich is the real deal

Similar to Dolidze, streaking heavyweight contender Sergei Pavlovich is someone I and many others have been keeping an eye on. Four first-round knockout wins in a row got him the fight against fan favorite Tai Tuivasa, and he extended that run to five by melting his opponent in just 54 seconds.
Pavlovich (16-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) looks like a real force inside that octagon right now, and he’s only gaining confidence. He’s not a wild brawler by any stretch, either. The power and precision he brought in the brief contest with Tuivasa is going to cause a lot of problems for the upper tier of this weight class.
The biggest issue with someone like Pavlovich is his lack of drawing ability. A lot of the names in the top five are not going to see a ton of upside in fighting him right now. Tuivasa, thankfully, was willing to take the assignment, but he brings an attitude that differs from many of his contemporaries.
Hopefully UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard can find the right solution to guide him toward the top, because as of right now, it feels like Pavlovich has the potential to be champion.

Rafael dos Anjos wants a big fight next.
The former UFC lightweight champion called out Conor McGregor 먹튀사이트following his latest win in the octagon this past Saturday. Dos Anjos (32-14 MMA, 21-12 UFC) defeated fellow veteran Bryan Barberena (19-8 MMA, 10-6 UFC) by submission 먹튀검증커뮤니티in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 42 and then took the mic and challenged the Irish superstar.
Dos Anjos feels he’s done enough to deserve a fight of that 토토사이트magnitude.
“Look at my resume, I fought everybody,” dos Anjos said at the post-fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “I need to fight somebody, I think I earned 메이저토토사이트this fight. I will not ask UFC for extra crazy paydays, I just want to have that fight. And yeah, July works perfect for me. We’ll see what happens.”

Dos Anjos was expected to face McGregor in 2016 for his second title defense. However, the Brazilian was forced out of the fight after breaking his foot in training and was replaced by Nate Diaz. Dos Anjos would go on to lose his title to Eddie Alvarez upon return, and the McGregor fight never came back around.
A lot has happened since the two were paired to fight. Currently, McGregor is inactive, as he’s recovering from a leg injury. He’s out of the USADA testing pool and appears to have gained noticeable muscle mass.
When asked if he thought McGregor was on performance-enhancing drugs, dos Anjos’s answer was yes.
“Yeah, he’s out of USADA,” dos Anjos said. “Why he’s out of the pool? His body looks so different, but I’ll give him some time to get clear.”

Performance of the Night: Roman Dolidze
Roman Dolidze def. Jack Hermansson via TKO (punches) – Round 2, 4:06
Roman Dolidze (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) had a bit of a slow start against Jack Hermansson (23-8 MMA, 10-6 UFC), who looked every bit the favorite in the first round. But then Dolidze wrapped up Hermansson in the second, and after multiple submission attempts he got him in a rare calf slicer, then used that opportunity to pound his way to a win.

Fight of the Night: Stephen Thompson vs. Kevin Holland
Stephen Thompson def. Kevin Holland via TKO (injury) – Round 4, 5:00
Stephen Thompson (17-6-1 MMA, 12-6-1 UFC) and Kevin Holland (23-9 MMA, 10-6 UFC) put together arguably the most entertaining 20 minutes of fighting this year in a top contender for Fight of the Year honors. Thompson appeared to hurt Holland’s right hand, but Holland kept pushing until his corner stopped the fight after the fourth, giving Thompson the TKO win.
