Plympton Family Update
December 14, 2023
From the Plympton Admin Team
Hello, Families!
Hour of Code
Your child is a programmer! This week, Plympton students participated in Hour of Code. Between December 4 and December 15, Mr. Kolar and Mrs. Gray ran Hour of Code activities to help students learn to think like programmers. Whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more, breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered. We encourage you to ask your child what they learned about programming.
Hour of Code Activities:
K- Finch Robot Maze Navigation
1- Finch Robot Maze Navigation: Advanced
2- Bits and Bricks programming
3- Dashbot Math Challenges
4- Root Robot Math Challenge
5- Programming Math Game in Scratch

As you may know, the memorial services for Officer Paul Tracey are being held at Our Lady's Church on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. The Police Department is expecting potentially thousands of law enforcement officers from across the state and beyond to attend these services. As a result, the Police Department is expecting road closures resulting in gridlock and standing traffic both days. Additionally, all School Resource Officers will be attending the services and therefore would not be available to be in schools.
Given these safety concerns for the entire community, the decision has been made to release schools early on Thursday and cancel school on Friday. This article is a good resource for speaking with children about death and grief.
Our Holiday Shop will run on Monday for those students originally scheduled for this Friday. Report cards will also go home on Monday. Report cards are sent home in the preferred language of families. If your studen'ts report card is not in your preferred language, please let us know and we will update our computer system.
We are looking forward to our Holiday Concert next week!
Be kind and go Penguins!
Sincerely,
Adrienne Norris and Amanda Brennan

When your student's after school dismissal arrangements change, please send a note to your child's homeroom teacher. If you prefer to email, please also include our fabulous secretary, Mrs, Conneely, at meghanconneely@walthampublicschools.org. Mrs. Conneely and Officer Dani double check every bus list every day and cross check with the attendance for the Champion after school program to be certain kids are getting to correct location after school. Please make every effort to communicate any changes as early as possible. Calls after 2:30 slow down our dismissal process.
All student must ride the bus they are assigned. Students may not switch buses.
