November 23 - No school - Thanksgiving break
November 24 - No school - Thanksgiving break
WHAT TIME DOES SCHOOL START?
School begins at 8:00 am.
Drop off times are from 7:40 am-7:55 am. Children should not be dropped off before 7:40. If your child is going to breakfast, you may drop off at 7:30 am and have them go directly to the cafeteria.
If you need to drop off before the 7:40 bell, you can enroll your child in Kids Campus. Further information about Kid’s Campus can be obtained from the district’s website, the Pinecrest webpage, or from our office.
Please make sure your child(ren) arrive at school on time. Learning takes place in a carefully arranged environment that begins the minute your child arrives at school. When your child is late, he/she may not feel the connectedness with the class or have the opportunity to absorb learning in the best setting. To maximize instruction time and academic achievement for your child, as well as minimize disruption for the whole class, please avoid tardiness.
DON'T WAIT UNTIL WINTER...PREPARE FOR A "SNOW DAY”
It is important that we have accurate phone numbers on file for your student with the school district. Although we are using a calling system to contact families in case of inclement weather, the district will still continue to post school delays or closings in the following ways:
Official school closing announcements will be made on Hastings KDWA Radio 1460, WCCO-Channel 4, KSTP-Channel 5, KMSP-Channel 9 and KARE-Channel 11 television and Hastings Public School Website.
Please visit our webpage for directions at: www.hastings.k12.mn.us
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
When the temperatures are in the 40’s and 50’s, we do require students to wear a light jacket or sweatshirt outside. When winter arrives, winter clothing will be required.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES
TREATS AT SCHOOL
The district has adopted a wellness policy. We are still celebrating student birthdays; we are just not doing so with birthday treats. We ask that students not bring any treats in honor of their birthday.

FOOD & NUTRITION SERVICES NEWS
November Menu Highlights
We are loving this fall weather and looking forward to our big Thanksgiving Dinner on November 16th. Enjoy Roasted Turkey with Mashed Potatoes and other traditional sides.
We are trying out a new item that elementary students haven’t had at school for a few years – Sloppy Joes on a whole grain bun! We think our recipe is extra special because we make them EXTRA SLOPPY! Don’t forget some crisp fresh veggies and fruits for a complete meal.
Breakfast Bites
Breakfast is as easy as 1-2-3! This year to make choosing a breakfast easier, our food options are assigned a point value. Students should choose foods that total AT LEAST 3 points to have a complete breakfast. Also remind your little breakfast-eaters that a healthy complete breakfast requires a fruit or 100% fruit juice! We also have some changes coming to the breakfast menu so stay tuned!
Substitutes Needed!
Looking for a fun opportunity to make some extra money while your kids are in school? Food & Nutrition Services is in need of substitutes to work in the school kitchens. Hours are flexible! Click on the link below to apply, or contact Kim Harren, Director of Food & Nutrition Services at 651-480-7126.
