Rock Hill Review
March 29, 2020
Opening Up
Once again, our kids stepped up knocked it out of the park with our inaugural school theme! There is no way I'd ever be clever enough to come up with this and it opens the door to so many possibilities for us to have fun with it next year! Right now we are collecting T-shirt ideas from students and staff members that reflect this theme. The plan is for all our kids and staff to have these shirts by the first day of school in August.
We continued to push forward with hiring this week (virtually, of course!) and are moving closer to a full staff for Rock Hill. Our goal is to have this process completed in the next couple of weeks, which would be incredible considering we will have over 170 staff members when we open the doors next school year! Erin and I had our first interview on November 1, 2019 and five months later we see the light at the end of the tunnel. I can't wait for our community to meet some of the amazing people we have hired at Rock Hill. We already hit the jackpot with our internal transfers but with the people we have coming in from literally all over the country, we definitely raised the level!
Thank you all so much for your efforts in helping our kids through this current learning process. There is no doubt it's a struggle (trust me, my wife and I have 3 kids of our own so we understand!) balancing school and working your own job, but you are all very much appreciated! What this is showing us are the amazing things that can be accomplished when everyone comes together for a common cause. We have so many great things ahead and just know that we (PISD) are always here to support you. Please reach out if you need anything at all and have a great week!
Go BLUE HAWKS!

Hill Top News - The Future of Broadcast
Introducing our Rock Hill Media Dream Team!
Kelley Henderson - Video Production and Broadcast Teacher
I was born and raised in Sweetwater, Texas, but moved to North Texas in 2009. I graduated with my bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M-Commerce in 2009. Following my graduation, I accepted an opportunity to work in the best school district in the state of Texas, known as Prosper ISD, where I have served the last 11 years as a video production and broadcast journalism teacher at Reynolds Middle School.
I love to learn and grow my craft as an educator. I recently graduated with a masters degree in Educational Administration because I had a passion to learn more about how to be a better leader and serve the students in the Texas public school system.
Prosper is home to my family. My husband and I have been married for 15 years this July. We stay busy with our 6-year-old son playing hockey and chasing our 3-year-old daughter around. When I have a moment of free time I love to work on my home business of digitizing tapes, binge watch TV shows or go to a theater to watch superhero movies!
I believe when given the opportunity, every student can be creative. My goal is for every child to explore and express their idea, while guiding the student to see that there is no limit to what they can imagine. I look forward to serving Rock Hill High School.
Taylor Mersmann - Photography and Radio Teacher
I have my master's in Technology Education from Texas A&M and received my undergrad in Education from Texas State University. I moved to McKinney ten years ago after finishing school, but I am originally from College Station, TX. I will soon be moving to Frisco and closer to Rock Hill Nation!
Within the Rock Hill media team, I look forward to creating a student staff that will document the first of the Blue Hawk stories, triumphs, and legacies. I am passionate to help young learners find success, and I can't wait to see that develop in our students within our inaugural year.
Margie Raper - Broadcast Teacher and Yearbook Advisor
I am a Master Journalism Educator with a passion for design, visual storytelling as well as culture and leadership development.
My goal is to share the world of scholastic journalism with students by teaching a comprehensive journalism curriculum with an emphasis on interpersonal communication, visual storytelling and media literacy in an ever-changing information landscape. As an educator, I strive to develop a community culture with students where they can develop their voice and vision as storytellers and journalists.
I helped open Frisco Wakeland High School in 2006, and with my kids, built a state- and nationally-recognized journalism program. For the last four years, I have been the adviser of the Highlander yearbook at Highland Park High School. Together with my students, we have evolved the program to a journalism-centered culture, earning state and national recognition.
Currently serving as the past-president of the Texas Association of Journalism Educators, I was named a Distinguished Adviser from the Journalism Education Association in 2020 and the 2019 Texas Journalism Teacher of the Year from ILPC. I am proud to serve and support my fellow journalism teachers and their students through professional development, curriculum development, convention planning and student press rights initiatives.
In my free time, I love being home with my husband, two children, and our lemon beagle, Seguin. Reading, photography and dreaming about remodeling our house are my favorite pastimes.
I can't wait to meet you and get started collaborating on our shared vision for Rock Hill High School media.
Let's Rise, Blue Hawks!
Please welcome Mrs. Sharon Kelley to our Administrative Team
Here is a little more info about her:
Hello Blue Hawk Nation! I am excited to join the RHHS family as a member of the administrative team. I am an educator of 18 years. As a classroom teacher, I taught all levels of high school English. I was a literacy consultant for the Region 10 Educational Service Center, which allowed me to support multiple districts across the DFW area. Most recently, I have served in the roles of professor for Johns Hopkins University master’s program students, as well as the role of instructional coach both at Johns Hopkins and in Allen ISD. I am a proud Prosper resident, and my husband and I have 2 boys that keep us busy. I am looking forward to being a part of the inaugural staff at RHHS and am honored to serve the students and families of our community. Let’s get ready to make history Blue Hawks!
Introducing our Rock Hill Math Department!
Becky Armstrong - Department Chair
Crystal Robinson
Kreston Martin (New to PISD)
Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach
Scott Cronin
Most of my teaching experience is with AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics, but also PreCalculus (both on level and PreAP). I have experience in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, PreCalculus, Calculus and Statistics. I have also been an AP Reader for AP Statistics for the past four years and will be going back again this summer. This year I am teaching AP Statistics, AP Calculus and Pre-AP Algebra 2.
I graduated from Virginia Tech University with a MA in Education (Secondary Math) and I have a BS in Electrical Engineering. I previously worked in the telecommunications field for 13+ years before joining the teaching profession. This experience allows me to answer the ever-present student question: "When will I ever use this?"
I incorporate technology when appropriate. I believe that technology is a tool and a asset, but not a crutch. Good use of thinking skills and common sense are very important in my opinion. I like to have discussions about real-life topics in my class that pertain to the lesson at hand. Sometimes we might not even agree on things -- and that's ok!!
I am happily married to my wife, Gretchen, and have been for 20 years. The oldest of our three children, Jacob, graduated PHS in the class of 2019 and is attending the University of North Texas. We have two daughters, Grace and Sarah, who both are in PISD and are in the classes of 2020 and 2022 respectively.
Reva Soyemi
Derrick Collins (New to PISD)
Victoria Kane (New to PISD)
Starla Laxton (New to PISD)
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Math in 2009 and Master’s in Teaching in 2010, both from Austin College in Sherman. I began my teaching career in 2010.
After 6 years in the classroom, I decided to take a 2 year “sabbatical” and became an international flight attendant. I was able to visit 43 countries and experience many different cultures. It was an absolute blast but the best part was that I was able to escort thousands of our military members back home after their deployments! I travelled the world for two years before the call of the classroom was too loud to ignore, so I returned to education in 2018.
I spend as much of my free time as possible with my favorite humans, my 7 year old nephew and 3 year old niece. Being an aunt is the greatest because I get to spoil them rotten and send them home to their parents!
Anna Park
This will be my third year teaching for Prosper and I am very excited to help open up Rock Hill!
Erin Miller
I am originally from El Reno, Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2016 with a BS in Secondary Education Mathematics. I am currently working on a Masters degree in Educational Technology Leadership, and should complete my degree program this summer.
I recently got married, so most students know me as Ms. Miller. My husband Rob and I live in Frisco with our dog Ollie.
Jeff Poole (New to PISD)
Jennifer Ware
Zach Harrell
I'm an active member of my church; I like reading books; I love a good bike-ride; and I enjoy playing guitar.
