Out and About
As we are out and about and in your classrooms, we often see remarkable things happening. I thought I would take a moment to share a few of the awesome things I snapped pictures of over the last couple of weeks. This is by no means all encompassing-just a quick snapshot of the intentionality and high expectations happening at Fair Grove.
Mrs. Lambeth helps her student better understand their learning goals by dissecting them as a group. She incorporates academic language and helps scaffolds for them before beginning the lesson.
Mrs. Tetteris fleshed out Cafeteria Expectations for her 5th graders. A student made anchor chart creates student buy-in and the Tree Map graphic organizer is a common language throughout the school as we continue to incorporate these in all grade levels.
1st graders in Mrs. Rinaldi's class created a Flow Map to retell the story "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bat." Authentic work, rigorous, relevant, and supporting a common language!
Mrs. Eads' class combined the "See, Think, Wonder" Thinking Routine with the "Zoom In" routine. Stop by and chat with her about it or check out https://thinkingpathwayz.weebly.com/thinkingroutines.html for more ideas. These are super quick strategies you can incorporate over and over again. You know what that means-planning becomes easier and no copies to make!
Ms. Beeson reads to her students and they work together to create an anchor chart about character traits. Involving students in creating anchor charts is a great way to build ownership of the learning.
Check out the student generated math in Mrs. Coleman's classroom. Rigor + Relevance!
A one on one reading conference in Ms. Embler's classroom-the book was intentionally selected from the book room just for K and Mrs. Embler is taking notes to document what she notices about K as a reader.
Making words with magnetic letters: Students were provided a word and asked to manipulate the letters to build that word, identify missing letters, and substitute letters. Want more info?stop by and see Mrs. Marsh.
Small group reading instruction with Mrs. Marsh: Notable? Students all had different books but were working on the same skill; Mrs. Marsh uses the Jan Richardson lesson plan to teach and collect data.

3rd-5th Teachers, please make sure you have the required amount and type of grades for each subject area. These are outlined in the DCS Grading Document in the PLC folder. Please remember to add grades into PowerSchool within 7 days of the assignment due date. It is important to stay on top of this as it is a communication tool that parents often rely on for monitoring their student's progress.
