Updates from the Pioneer Leadership Team

Pioneer Community,

We had another great week at Pioneer! Culture Day was amazing! It was such an honor to embrace and showcase all of our diversity at Pioneer. The program was well organized by our DEI council. Great job Pio DEI council! We had two PHENOMENAL music concerts and a fun BSU dance on Friday! Also, thank you and congratulations to our English Learner Team for 100% completion of the WIDA testing! Thank you to everyone for all of your support last week at Pioneer.

This week will be another wonderful week at Pioneer. We are preparing for MME testing this week and will be posting all seating assignments after we return from spring break. ACTION @ Pioneer has started TUNESDAY. Every Tuesday they play a song on the PA after announcements and the winning classroom that can identify the song and artist gets a prize! We could use donations of candy or other fun prizes for the friendly competition, if interested please drop off at Main Office and label "TUNESDAY."

On Thursday, the Comedy Troupe has a show in the Little Theater starting at 7pm!

Have a great week Pioneer!

Community Resources

Reminders: Where to find resources for students and families

  1. Community Resources webpage: We update this page regularly with new resources. Feel free to share with families!
  2. Community Resources email: Any staff person can use this email if you have a question about where to find a resource for a student or family in the community.

Social Service and Partner Resources

  • Have a family or student in need of food? Check Food Gatherers!
    • Food Gatherers is the hub for food resources. Families and staff can call their office for help with food needs. FG can help connect families to food pantries and/or provide emergency food kits. “FIND FOOD”
  • Does a student need medical or mental health services? Try RAHS
    • The RAHS Clinics, located at Pioneer, Pathways and Scarlett, are open and available to ANY student, not just those who attend those schools.
    • RAHS can help families and students who are under insured or have no insurance.
    • Some services RAHS offers: Nutrition Services, Vision/Dental, Confidential Mental Health Services and Psychotherapy.
    • See flyers for details: Pathways, Pioneer, Scarlett.
    • Questions about RAHS? Staff can reach out to AAPS Health and Wellbeing Coordinator Elyse Bairley:
  • Have a family who needs help completing online applications for SNAP, medical benefits or other assistance?
    • You can send them to the U-M Public Benefits Advocacy Project.
    • Flyer here.
  • Have a Grandparent or other relative raising a Grandchild?

The ACTION Leadership group at Pioneer is open to all club leaders or students that want to positively impact the Pioneer community. ACTION stands for All Connecting To Improve Our Neighborhoods. If you have a neighborhood event that needs student support please contact Dr. Hyliard -

Upperclassmen Leadership Meeting is every Tuesday during early lunch in C311.

Puzzles in the Pioneer Library

Do you have puzzles you have completed and no longer need? The Pioneer Library would love to have them. We are looking for puzzle donations in the 500-1000 piece range (we won't turn down sets of 300 or 1500 either). We started making these available this fall during open periods and lunch for students to work on and they have been popular!

There is a box outside the front office (inside the front clock tower entrance) for puzzle donations drop off.
