The Crissman Connection
January 14, 2022
Hi Crissman Families,
I hope you had a wonderful week. Our teachers and students have been busy teaching and learning. Our NWEA assessments will start this week. Please check with your child's teacher for the date of your child's test dates. It is a good idea to remind your child to try his/her personal best and take their time on all their tests. Our staff uses the data to create a strong School Improvement Plan for our all students and the teacher's use the data for a multitude of reasons in the classroom.
Just a reminder that we have NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 17th.
Also, you may have seen an email from Mr. Monroe, our superintendent, about updated quarantine protocols. Please click on the link below to learn about the new guidance from the Macomb County Health Department.

UCS Wellness Podcast
The UCS Wellness team is happy to announce the second episode of our podcast series. The team worked with community members to create a podcast regarding different areas of physical, mental, and social health for UCS staff, students and families.

Oftentimes when loss occurs, whether it be through death or beyond death entirely, grief is experienced by those impacted by the loss. Yet, the grieving process is unique to each individual, including children experiencing grief.
This episode of the UCS Wellness Podcast explores the different levels of grief and how we can cope as well as what to look for to help identify grief in children. We called on SandCastles Grief Support Program, a free, local community-based program to help us with the topic of grief. This episode features Malow Junior High School counselor, April Raupp, speaking with SandCastles program supervisor, Michele Kreft, LMSW.

In the inaugural episode of the UCS Wellness Podcast, Henry Ford II High School counselor Catherine Livingston speaks with Nancy Buyle, School Safety/Student Assistance Consultant from the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD), touching on anxiety, depression and suicide. This episode will help parents know what to look for in their children and where to go if they have concerns regarding their children's mental health.
Winter Recess Guidelines
Winter Recess
20°F Recess is held outside
15-19°F Wind conditions will determine
14°F or Below: Inside Recess
If temperatures are between 15° and 19°, the
wind chill factor will be considered.
It is important that children dress appropriately: boots, hats, gloves/mittens and a warm coat. All students are expected to participate in recess. Fresh air and physical play help develop fitness and increase children’s ability to focus during learning times. Generally, if a child is well enough to attend school, they are well enough to go outside for a short break and to get some fresh air.
