Resource Teachers Weekly Update
Week of 5/4-5/8
Mr. Black
Mr. Cetro
This week, students in math continued instruction in the ratios and proportions unit focusing on estimating population sizes. Next week, students in math will estimate proportions and will be introduced to finding rates of change using tables and graphs.
This week, students in reading continued engaging in individualized reading instruction, utilizing decoding strategies to continue mastery. Next week, students in reading will continue to receive individualized instruction.

3rd hour:
This week - Students reinforced knowledge of social problem solving, looking and types and intensities.
Next week - Students will continue to apply previously learned skills about social problem solving specifically compromises.
6th hour:
This week- Students worked on the context clue strategy to define vocabulary, writing compound sentences, and reading comprehension skills.
Next week: Students will use a strategy to define unknown vocabulary words. Students will complete a reading using learned strategies and then a writing piece related to this reading.

1st hour:
This week: Students continued to read an informational test to determine the author’s purpose and evaluate an argument.
Next Week: Students will learn vocabulary in context in a focus area by figuring out new words, using words creatively, and learning new academic words.
6th hour:
This week: Students solved 1-step & 2-step equations, solve equations with like terms, and solve for x in an equation involving whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Next week: Students will begin Two-step equation word problems and take a second quiz over: -Two-step equations -Two-step equations with decimals and fractions -Two-step equation word problems 7th hour: This week: Students learned steps and strategies of changing questions into part of the answer. Next week: Students will continue to practice changing questions into part of the answer.

This week in ELA 7: Students read/listened to 6 (9-14) chapters a week using the self monitoring strategies! They also worked on critical thinking skills to show their understanding of what they read. Next week students will finish chapter 15-20. They will continue with self monitoring to help them build comprehension and answer critical thinking questions.
This week in ELA 8:Students read 6 (8-13) chapters this week using the self monitoring strategies! They also worked on critical thinking skills to show their understanding of what they read. Next week they will continue reading Ghost Boys chapter 14-20 and using critical thinking skills.
This week in LS 2nd hour: Students read three articles on recycling and taking notes in order to create a writer response using evidence from the text. Next week students will continue with the idea of argumentative writing response based on compare contrast.

7th hour: This week we started our short stories section of the unit. Each student read/listened to the story ‘The Lottery’. They answered a question that had them look more deeply into the text and reflect from their own life experiences. The students are still being asked to read 15 minutes a day and will have a check-in at the end of every week. Next week will be our last week of the unit and we will read/listen to another short story and answer a question in the blog.
3rd hour A/B: This week we continued to support the instruction being taught in Math 7 and 8. We used Khan academy for reviewing the subjects that are being taught in Math 7 and 8.

ELA
This week:
Students reviewed vocabulary and high-frequency words based on Unique Learning Systems monthly unit of study: Economics. Students applied previously taught reading strategies to the Chapter 3: Mark Goes to the Bank and Chapter 4: Saving and Spending Money.. Students reviewed how to write a friendly letter, and were presented with how to address an envelope. They also reviewed a previously taught writing checklist and writing strategies, as well as used digital tools to develop a journal entry plan and write a friendly letter to send to a family member or friend.
Next week:
Students review vocabulary and high-frequency words based on Unique Learning Systems monthly unit of study: Economics. *Environmental print will be reviewed as well. Students will apply previously taught reading strategies during a shared and independent reading of Ch.5 Mark Makes a Budget and Ch. 4 Mark Thinks About Different Jobs in Unique Learning Systems. Students will review punctuation and capitalization rules. They will also review a previously taught writing checklist and writing strategies, as well as use digital tools to develop a Letter of Introduction for their Future Teachers.
Vocational Skills
This week:
Students reviewed previously taught social skills strategies in Zones of Regulation and applied these to social daily living and job-related scenarios. Students will continue to review a rating system (Independence, Prompts, and Modeling) for Hard Skills and apply to a new weekly in-home job routine selection. Students will complete an evaluation of the job. Students will continue to review workplace and safety signs activities, as well as choose a job simulation activity in the area of mailroom, restaurants, packaging, or stocking in Unique Learning systems. Students will review what a Resume is and will update their resume (from last year) using their personal information sheet and input from parents.
Next week:
Students will review previously taught social skills strategies in Zones of Regulation and apply these to social daily living and job-related scenarios. Students will also create their own Zones of Regulation toolkit for home. Students will continue to review a rating system (Independence, Prompts, and Modeling) for Hard Skills and apply to a new weekly in-home job routine selection. Students will complete an evaluation of the job. Students will continue to review workplace and safety signs activities, as well as choose a job simulation activity in the area of mailroom, restaurants, packaging, or stocking in Unique Learning systems. Given a list of entry level jobs, students will read the descriptions
and select a job to apply for. Students apply for the job using a basic job application and their personal information sheet. Math This week: Students reviewed previously taught math strategies for counting to the next dollar using the Dollar Up strategy, counting money using TouchMoney strategy, and for adding and subtracting money using Touchpoint math, counting backward, using a 100’s chart and using a calculator. Students will complete math activities that pertain to personal goals. Students will utilize supplemental math via iXL to review basic math concepts. Next week: Students will continue to review previously taught math strategies for counting to the next dollar using the Dollar Up strategy, counting money using TouchMoney strategy, and for adding and subtracting money using Touchpoint math, counting backward, using a 100’s chart and using a calculator. Students will use multiplication appropriately with money (purchasing multiple items, tips and discounts). Students will also practice writing checks. Students will complete math activities that pertain to personal goals. Students will utilize supplemental math via iXL to review basic math concepts. Science/Social Studies: This week: Students read a weekly news article called Irwin Family Helps Animals. They completed a multi-step experiment that follows the Scientific Method process called Changing Pennies. Students will review grocery store departments, storage sort of ingredients needed for weekly cooking activity. Students completed a multi-step cooking activity called Zoo Snack Mix. Next week: Students will read a weekly news article called Thanking Hospital Workers. They will complete a multi-step experiment that follows the Scientific Method process called Chemical Changes in Applies. Students will review grocery store departments, storage sort of ingredients needed, and a healthy shopping activity to review food groups, and complete a multi-step cooking activity called Healthy Pepper Pizza. Students will practice positional words when they complete a neighborhood map.

Wilson Reading: This week students continued listening to our novel and summarized key ideas. We also discussed the novel on zoom. Students practiced Wilson strategies while reading a short passage aloud. They created a flipgrid video or emailed a voice recording of their reading. Students also practiced comprehension strategies with completing lessons on iXL. Next week, students will continue working on our novel and summarizing key ideas. They will time themselves reading Wilson words in isolation and continue comprehension work on iXL
ELA 8: This week students listened to pages 99-138 of Ghost Boys and answered some comprehension questions. We also discussed the novel on zoom. They wrote a Noun Verse poem and worked on comprehension lessons on iXL. Next week, students will listen to Ghost Boys pages 139-176 and answer some comprehension questions. I hope to see more students join zoom to discuss our novel. Students will also finish our poetry unit with writing a free verse poem.
Learning Strategies math: This week students worked on vertical, supplementary, and complementary angles. Next week they will review solving equations and find measures of angles.
Learning Strategies ELA: This week students listened to Chapters 33-40 of the novel, Jack’s Run and completed summary responses. They also worked on their distance learning paragraph. Next week, students will continue listening to our novel, chapters 41-47 and summarizing key events. They should also submit their distance learning paragraph.
