Highlighting the achievements of Fort Worth ISD educators

Stormie Santiago
Ashley Hess, first-year teacher at Benbrook Elementary
Ms. Hess understands that students need to move. She gets her first-graders engaged in fun and stimulating dance videos that are also instructional. Her first graders enjoy getting the wiggles out while calling out basic literacy or math facts.
Ms. James Success High School
Ms. James teaches Chemistry at Success High School. She has students in her class that speak a variety of languages as their first language. Her instruction has been developed to embrace vocabulary as the entry point into new and challenging content. She uses digital vocabulary games as DO NOW components, reviews important terminology as a precursor to beginning lab investigations, and allows students to discuss in small groups the language of the science they are studying. The lucky students in Ms. James’ class speak during every class: to each other, to Ms. James, and to the whole class. Ms. James’ class is fun, noisy and always interactive!
