2022-2023 CALENDAR SURVEY
Nurse Kendall Update
Please keep your student home if they have a fever or other symptoms of Covid (headache, cough, congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting). We have had a recent uptick in cases here for our campus. Continue to practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands or using hand sanitizer as much as possible! If your child tests positive, please fill out the Covid self-report located on your student’s SSO under Covid Central.
Energy Drinks
As your children enter their “tween” years, it may be tempting to allow them to consume energy drinks, such as Monster drinks. Did you know that a cup of coffee has approximately 90 milligrams of caffeine in it but an energy drink can have 400-500 milligrams of caffeine!!!! That’s a huge amount, especially for a child. The following article is really informative about energy drinks:
Are Energy Drinks for Kids a Good Idea?
Asthma
If your child has asthma and uses an inhaler, please consider leaving an inhaler here in the clinic as the weather gets cooler. I have seen several students starting to have issues with their asthma since the weather has had such drastic changes. You must fill out a permission slip and the inhaler stays in the clinic unless your child’s doctor permits self-carry. Call me if you have any questions: 281-298-3809

Art
In Mr. Hunt’s art class, we are continuing to work on our sculpture unit. Students are learning about the main types of sculpture, creating an orthographic drawing and creating a wearable sculpture out of paper mache and cardboard. With Mrs. Ferguson we are doing a number of different art projects including pop art self-portraits, Kente inspired yarn weaving, and galaxy watercolor paintings.
PE
Library
A huge thank you and shout out to all the parents who volunteered their time to help make this the best book fair EVER! This event wouldn’t have been nearly as successful without your help.
Students donated over $400 in change that goes directly to helping get more library books in the library. Your students are VERY generous.
Happy Reading everyone!

Friends of Collins Fundraiser - Thank You!
Thank you so much to all of the Collins families and friends who gave so generously to our Friends of Collins fundraiser. We are so grateful that we not only reached our goal but exceeded it, with a final total of $27,305 raised! Your support is deeply appreciated and will help us achieve our goals of providing great field trips, music and PE equipment, technology, and field days for our Collins students.
Individual prizes have been ordered from vendors based off participation levels and will be distributed after the Thanksgiving break. Collins yard signs will be available soon, and we will email pick up times to people who chose them.
The top fundraising homeroom classes for each grade were Mrs. Klapesky's class for fifth grade and Mrs. Hall's class for sixth grade. Several homeroom classes earned and will receive extra recess, and some also earned and will receive electronics time!
