Beck Bulletin "Excellence For All"
September 15, 2017
Principal's Message
Dear Beck Families,
We have enjoyed an excellent start to the 17-18 school year! Walking the building and visiting every classroom several times has given me great confidence in our students, teachers, and staff that this is going to be our most successful year yet. Our teachers have been intentional on designing engaging learning experiences and building positive relationships with all of our students.
As in the past, one of our priorities is to focus on strong character development. We do this in many ways including but not limited to: character counts education, True Blue Code, principal's book of the month, Monday Morning Mindset Meetings, and school-wide assemblies. We know that a great concern of our parents and community is bullying. We are working diligently with our students and staff to create an environment that supports and appreciates the differences in us all, with an emphasis on kindness towards others. The following are actions that we have already taken and will be taking over the course of the semester.
- All staff will be trained on identifying Bullying, and the use of Anti-Bullying strategies.
- Character Education Committee made up of teachers, parents, and students.
- First 3 Monday Morning Mindset Meetings are designed around self-awareness as a learner and a citizen of Beck Elementary.
- Guidance lessons delivered by our Counselor, Laura Morrow.
- I have read "The Invisible Boy" to 8 classrooms in K-2 with several more scheduled for the next couple weeks.
- October Principal Book of the Month is "Only One You" that emphasizes the unique differences in each of us and celebrates life's journey.
- Character lessons by BNHS student leaders will take place daily during our Bulldog Blitz.
- Rowdy for the Dallas Cowboys is doing a school-wide Anti-Bullying assembly in October.
- Training for parents will be offered the first semester (more info to come).
- Multi-Cultural Appreciation Family Night will be held in November.
- Information about bullying Prevention available to teachers and parents.
As you may notice, keeping our students safe and teaching strong character is important to us and is a part of who we are at Beck. We will never be perfect, but we will strive to ensure that all students have an environment where they can succeed and be happy. We welcome any suggestions and appreciate your support!

Watch D.O.G.S (Dads of Great Students)
The goal of the program is to help our school be positively influenced by the committed involvement of fathers and father figures in the lives of their children and students (www.fathers.com).
WATCH D.O.G.S. volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of cars, monitoring the lunch room, supervising recess, helping staff with various tasks, or assisting in classrooms throughout the school.
We will have our Watch D.O.G. kick-off on Sept. 19th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. We would like to extend an invitation to all of our dads and/or father figures to learn more about the program and have a pizza dinner with their children. Please RSVP by Sept. 18th by clicking here and sending the form back to school with your child.

Morning Drop-Off Information
Safety is our top priority at Beck. In order to ensure the safest drop-off procedures, please note the following:
- Please do not allow students to exit the car from the driver's side during morning drop-off.
- Please do not get out of your vehicle for any reason. We have greeters that will open the door for your child.
- Once your child unloaded, and the car-line begins to move, please do not watch your child walk into the campus as it will slow the traffic line. We have staff that will supervise your students entering the building and getting to their classroom safely.
Multicultural Family Night
Our family night on 11/14 will be a “United In Kindness” multicultural event hosted by the PTA. We are a growing school represented by students and families from all around the world. It will definitely be a fun evening of food, music, crafts, and cultural entertainment. We have several families from across the globe that have already volunteered to share some of their customs during this event. If you would like share your custom or to participate please contact Jill Sida @ jillnimz@me.com
