the RAH

from Mike & J-
My apologies on the delayed information concerning Shop with a Hero event scheduled for Feb 1st. One of the five key Walmart stores has not opted in, and I'm waiting for confirmation about which specific store that is. We do know that four of the five stores have committed to participate at various levels. I'm confident that we will have funding for two students from each elementary site; it just may be a shift as to what store your site attends.
It's time to start thinking dates for Kindergarten registration. We are targeting a specific window with alternative option. Kindergarten registration will take place from March 2-12, with you having the opportunity to choose which date in that time frame works best for you and your school. The alternative option: if you have a K Prep day already scheduled for March that is not within this window, you may choose to have your Kindergarten registration on that date. With either option, please connect with your Parents as Teacher educator, your Kindergarten team, and your office staff to discuss and choose a date. The next RAH will contain a form link for you to share your plan with Missy & J.
We are so grateful for you and your leadership. Looking forward to learning together on Wednesday!

Discovery Center Opportunities
Thank you for helping us spread the word about our STEM & Opioid Education for ALL programs. Annie Wallenmeyer has bus transportation grants for teachers. I would be more than happy to meet with anyone on your team who has questions about this important project. Most of this lesson (other than the lab experience) can be taken into classrooms as an outreach lesson if we can’t get a group here for a free field trip.

Please let me know how I can help.
Thanks,

Outdoor Education "Open Flames" Guidance Document
The attached document (at the bottom of this newsletter) has been approved by ELT, Missouri Department of Conservation, and Springfield Fire Marshall Bill Spence. These guidelines should be followed anytime a teacher is utilizing an “Open Flame” outside of the building and on school grounds. Please share this with your building principals. The document includes best practices and a form that is required for teachers to submit to administration prior to conducting lessons that include “open flames”. The implementation of this practice will ensure safety for all and continued practice of Outdoor Education lessons that include “open flames”.
I will follow up with sending the attached document to Outdoor Awareness teachers. I will also have the document added to “Administrative Practices and Procedures”. Let me know if you have any questions.
