Brown Bears
Your Weekly Update from Brown Elementary School
Mr. McCann's Message
Dear Families,
Exciting news! The “Brown” family, the niece and nephews of Harold and Herbert Brown, visited on Tuesday, January 30th. They shared stories about the family, took pictures with the medals in the main office, and then went on a small tour of the school. Several of them had been at Brown when it first opened in the 1950s and were part of the original dedication ceremony.
There were a total of four Brown Brothers in the Harold and Herbert generation. Roger Brown was the oldest, Richard Brown was the youngest, and Harold and Herbert were in the middle. All four of them went off to fight in WWII. Roger returned as well as Richard, but Harold and Herbert were killed in action. Their mother was contacted after this tragic news and the town offered to name the local elementary school after the two boys she lost in the war. Roger and Richard had returned and eventually had children: James Brown, Steven Brown, Michael Brown and Meredith Brown Dumm (all pictured above).
Best,
Aidan McCann, Principal
