Holbrook Weekly Newsletter
January 10, 2022
Welcome Back to Our First Full Week of 2022!
Our community has done an amazing job of looking out for one another. Thank you for your continued support with this! As you know, we are in the midst of a large uptick of COVID cases. It is important we are not only careful for ourselves, but for our greater community.
Thank you to our families for being proactive in testing and cautious when your children don't feel well. If your child isn't feeling well or is at all symptomatic, please keep them at home, and report positive cases to the office as quickly as possible.
We have received additional at-home antigen test kits for Holbrook students only. If you would like one for your Holbrook student, call the office to make arrangements to pick one up. Each test kit includes 2 tests. Do not submit a Google request as we did prior to Winter Break. Please refer to this fact sheet in English and Spanish for more information about how to use the at-home tests.
Additionally, information regarding MDUSD testing site locations and times are on the MDUSD COVID-19 Testing website. Please note that PCR tests are administered on-site and are NOT take-home rapid antigen tests. A list of community-wide testing sites can also be found on the Contra Costa County Health Services website at https://www.coronavirus.cchealth.org/get-tested.
Here are a few more reminders from Superintendent Clark's message on January 5:
- Wear masks that fit snugly over the mouth and nose as masks are required indoors at all times*.
- Wearing masks outdoors is highly recommended during close contact play because of the new variant.
- Have your child dress warmly as we will be keeping doors and windows open in the classrooms and eating outside as much as possible.
- Consider getting the vaccine and/or booster if your child is eligible.
- Keep your child home if COVID-19 symptoms are present, and have a COVID-19 test administered. (Contact your child’s teacher for short-term independent study work, 3-14 days.)
- Reinforce hand washing throughout the day.
*Please pack a few back-ups in your child's backpacks as well.
Thank you for all your support in keeping our students (and entire community) healthy and safe!
Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year Nominations
Mt. Diablo Unified School District is looking for a nomination from each school site for Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year 2022-2023. District staff members, parents/guardians, students, and community members may nominate classroom teachers who have demonstrated a passion for teaching, an ability to differentiate instruction to meet students' needs, and teachers who connect with and support their school community. The deadline to submit a Teacher of the Year Nomination Form is Wednesday, January 12, 2022.

Monthly Life Skill
The monthly life skill for January is Perseverance.
- Perseverance is to continue to do something in spite of difficulties; to have patience.
- Perseverance looks like practicing a new skill, or pushing harder to do something, like running.
- Perseverance sounds like "I can almost do it" and "When the work gets tough, I don't give up!"
- Perseverance feels like success or confidence.
Please encourage discussion of our life skill at home too.
Here is a link to movies that promote perseverance. Discuss which character(s) persevered and how.
Share some ways you have persevered, and ask your child how they have persevered at home and school. Brainstorm some other ways you can all persevere this week.
Thank you for your support with this!
