Mrs. Walters' News
Dear Bushnell Elementary Families,
It's been a lovely fall week at Bushnell. Lots of crunchy leaves are on the playground and children are enjoying collecting and playing with them. So colorful!
We celebrated 50s day this week in honor of our 50th day of school!
This week, I'd like to highlight the writing curriculum and student growth in that area at Bushnell. We use Lucy Calkins Writing Workshop materials to deliver writing instruction. This allows for lots of teacher-to-student, specific goal setting and feedback to improve writing skills. Writing starts by drawing pictures, labeling items, and then eventually creating full thoughts with capitalization and punctuation. One of my favorite things to do is to try to decipher what is being shared when students are using phonetic spelling which can sometimes be a challenge! Writing can be difficult to both instruct as well as learn! Many of our teachers display student work in the hallway- check out some of the writing below occurring here among our halls.
Are you and your family in need of assistance for the holidays? if so, please call us at 987-2650 to let us know. We are already receiving inquiries from local businesses and organizations looking to sponsor families for thanksgiving meals as well as Christmas help.
We could use donations of winter gear (used or new!) as we start to head into the colder months. Jackets, snow pants, hats, mittens and boots are all greatly appreciated.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Erin Walters (GO GREEN!)
