Botulism

  1. It is food poisoning caused by a bacterium (botulinum) growing on improperly sterilized canned meats and other preserved foods.

Symptoms of Botulism

  • Double vision
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Blurred Vision
  • Dry Mouth
  • Droopy eyelids
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Slurred speech

How to prevent botulism

  1. Examine canned foods before cooking
  2. Cook and reheat foods thoroughly
  3. Keep cooked foods hot (above 140 degrees) or cold (below 40 degrees)
