It is food poisoning caused by a bacterium (botulinum) growing on improperly sterilized canned meats and other preserved foods.
Symptoms of Botulism
- Double vision
- Difficulty swallowing
- Blurred Vision
- Dry Mouth
- Droopy eyelids
- Muscle Weakness
- Slurred speech
How to prevent botulism
- Examine canned foods before cooking
- Cook and reheat foods thoroughly
- Keep cooked foods hot (above 140 degrees) or cold (below 40 degrees)
