Family Focus
This year we are taking more of a family focused approach to homework. We believe that spending quality family time is vital in the success of your student. We will provide family friendly, engaging homework activities and assignments. We would love if you would send us pictures of these activities and share them with us.
This weeks Family focus:
If you go to the fair this week, have your children count the tickets you buy for food and games. Talk with your child how many tickets will be left after you buy something. Or how many more tickets they need to purchase an item. Math can seem so hard and foreign until it is used in real life situations.
Another at home idea is to look around your house for solids and liquids. Solids can hold their own shape and can be measured. Liquids can not hold their shape but can still be measured. Take a picture of a solid or liquid found in your home and send us a picture!
Academics
Due to the short 3 day week there will not be a spelling test this week!
Reading: This week we will begin working on informational text. Students will discover the difference between Literary Fiction and Informational (expository) text. Reading Pumpkin project letter will be sent home this week.
ELA: We will be focusing on common and proper nouns.
Math: We are continuing with coins, odd/even numbers, and 10 or 100 more/less.
Science: This week 2nd grade will be learning about Light and Sound Energy.
Social Studies: Students will extend their learning on cardinal directions.
