Principal's Update - Mrs. Laura Hazard
Hello SRES Families!
One more week until we welcome back our 3rd and 4th graders for four in-person days of learning! I cannot wait to have all of our students back with us again. Please know our Task Force continues to meet weekly to make adjustments and plan for our next phase, always with safety at the forefront. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out - we are here for you!
Updates:
Halloween at SRES
We want to celebrate! Unfortunately, we will not be able to have our traditional Halloween Parade, but here’s how we will plan to bring Halloween to SRES:
On Thursday, October 29th students and staff are invited to come to school in costume! (Group A 3rd and 4th graders are encouraged to dress in costume for Morning Meeting!)
A few costume guidelines: please no heavy face make up, no additional face coverings besides PPE masks, and no props (swords, brooms, etc.).
We will take pictures of students and put together a slideshow to share with you! Group A families, please send in a photo of your student in costume to Nurse Jenn at jennifer.vaughan@wnesu.com
Our PTO will have a treat bag for each student (Group A students will receive their treat bag on Tuesday)! Thank you, PTO!!!
Early Release and InService days
Thursday, October 29th is an Early Release day. Students will be dismissed at 11:45am. Lunch will be served prior to dismissal.
Friday, October 30th is an InService day; there is no school for students. Teachers will spend the day learning about technology and digging deeper into our new literacy program.
Our community is AMAZING!
BenWin Charities, Inc. contributed $2500 to student activities.
Bellows Falls Downtown Development Alliance provided each student $5 BF Buck$ coupon.
Isabel Croteau, a local quilter, donated two handmade quilts for students in need.
The Elks continues to provide winter outerwear for students in need.
Jim Ruggerio is once again providing funds so that each SRES student will receive a FREE t-shirt! Order forms will soon be available if you would like additional shirts or sweatshirts. Our “hands” design is terrific!!
Enjoy the fall weekend with your family! Be sure to read a book together!!
Your partner in education,
Laura Hazard

Ticks in Vermont
The best way to prevent tick borne diseases is to prevent tick bites. In Vermont, tick borne illnesses are most often transmitted between early spring and late fall since ticks are most active during warm months.Take action to decrease your risk of infection. Wear a repellent containing up to 30% DEET, check your body daily for ticks, and limit your exposure to ticks and tick habitats.
Vermont Travel Advisory
Please be sure to look at this week's updated cross state travel map. This map is updated every Tuesday. Those who travel to a yellow or red county outside of Vermont for unessential purposes will be required to quarantine for 14 days (or 7 days with a negative COVID test) upon returning to Vermont. We, as a school apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause but this is a policy made by the Vermont Department of Health that we MUST follow.
Get ready for the Scholastic Book Fair!
This year the book fair will be a virtual fair that you can shop at your leisure from November 9 through November 22. Shipping is free with an order of $25 or more and books will be delivered directly to your home! There will be a sneak peek the week prior to the start of the fair and flyers will be sent home with students. All books ordered are guaranteed to arrive before Hannukah and Christmas! Happy shopping and happy reading!
Our library book return is a plastic bin in the main entrance lobby. Please have children return their books here so they can borrow more!
