A Message from your Principal, Mrs. Katie Johnson
Dear Families,
As we have recently completed our benchmark assessments, I wanted to provide an update on our efforts to support all students through our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). As a refresher, Multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) is a framework that schools use to provide ALL students with the support they need to succeed. MTSS is based on the idea that all students learn, but some students may need more support than others. It is our goal to identify students early and intervene quickly. Our decisions are based on data and observations to grow all learners.
Following the completion of benchmark assessments, we collaboratively review student progress and adjust our intervention groups to ensure that each student receives the appropriate level of support. Any of these adjustments impacting your child will be communicated to you from your child’s teacher and school interventionists. As always, you are encouraged to contact your child's teacher if you have questions/concerns regarding your child's learning journey.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in your child's education. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Respectfully,
Katie Johnson
Playground Expectations
The school playground is a place to enjoy, take part in physical activities and take a break from classroom work. In order for the playground to be a safe and enjoyable place for all students, please review these expectations with your children.
5 Essentials Survey
We need your help and value your input! Each year the 5 Essentials Survey is offered to parents/guardians as a means to provide meaningful feedback on the performance of our school.
I personally invite each of you to take just a few minutes to complete the survey to ensure your voice is heard.
The challenge we face is that our school will only receive the results of the parent/guardian survey if more than 20% of our families complete the survey. While the majority of schools don't make the minimum requirement, we hope to be able to access this very beneficial information.
Thank you for taking time to provide meaningful feedback.
2024 Monarch Master Award List and Challenges
A Message from Ms. Hendron
It is so exciting to see how many students are choosing to participate in the Monarch Reading Challenge! To answer some questions I've heard:
The reward for completing the challenge is BIG! Students can wear PJ's to school, bring a stuffie, will get an extra recess, have snacks in the LRC and will receive a trophy! This celebration date is TBD.
Students can access the books from our library, the public library or this book room. The book room is also available in Seesaw. If your student checks out from our library, I have been encouraging them to return it as soon as they are done reading so other students have access to it.
The signed challenge descriptions are due no later than March 15, 2024.
Students can obtain the challenge description and list of books from the LRC or you can click here.
As always, you can reach out at any time: rhendron@ccsd66.org.
Thank you!
Parent-Teacher Communication
We understand the importance of open communication with our parents, and we are committed to ensuring that your concerns and questions are addressed promptly. In order to respect the teacher's primary focus on your children during the school day, we kindly ask that you schedule meetings with teachers via email instead of stopping by unannounced.
Please email the teacher to arrange a suitable time for the meeting, providing a few available dates and times, as well as the reason for the meeting and any specific topics you would like to discuss. This approach allows the teacher to dedicate uninterrupted time to your concerns and ensures a productive meeting.
Your active involvement in your child's education is invaluable, and we appreciate your cooperation in scheduling meetings in advance. Together, we can work towards the best possible outcomes for your child.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Valentine's Day
Just a friendly reminder to all students and parents that Valentine's Day is approaching, and if students would like to participate in exchanging cards, they are welcome to bring in Valentine's cards for all of their classmates on or before the morning of February 14th. Students will have the opportunity to pass their cards out, the morning of Valentine’s Day. Please refrain from addressing cards to specific students; simply have your child sign their Valentine’s with their name so their classmates know who it is from. Treat bags and/or treats are allowed, but they must be taken home to be consumed. Please ensure that any treats brought in are individually wrapped and store-bought for safety reasons.
Let's spread love and positivity in a respectful and inclusive manner.
1st Graders: Intramural Floor Hockey
Intramural floor hockey is being offered for your child before school. If your child would like to attend, just show up! There is no need to sign up or any cost to you. These sessions will be from 6:55 until 7:30 AM. This is a great way for students to get some extra exercise in a slightly competitive setting. Your child can come on any morning that works for your family. Morning intramurals will run from February 7th -March 7th -Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday only (12 Sessions). Any questions feel free to reach out to me at bkukulski@ccsd66.org.
Thank you,
Mr. Kukulski
