New Collaboration Tables in LLC!
The PTA is working to continue this project with soft seating and new shelving coming hopefully in the near future. This summer, the district will paint and replace the carpet with luxury vinyl tile in wood tones.
We are excited to redesign the space to better support all of the learning activities we like to do with students. Thanks, PTA! A special thanks to Mrs. Adrianne Karlovitz, PTA VP of Fundraising for her leadership in making this happen!
Fun was had by all at the Kane County Cougars Family Night!
UPDATED - Staff Changes for Next Year
I want to inform you of some changes we have for our school next year.
Physical education teacher, Mrs. Diane Stanton, will retire at the end of this school year. Some revisions have been made to the district PE schedule, and experienced PE teacher, Mrs. Colleen Miles, will teach PE at Washington next year in the afternoons. Mrs. Miles is a PE teacher at Whittier, where she will continue to teach in the mornings.
Mrs. Robin Ryan, music teacher, will also be retiring at the end of the school year. The position has been posted, and principals will work this summer to hire a music teacher to be shared among Washington and two other schools.
We have enough students registered to offer two classes of all-day kindergarten (ADK) next year. We are planning for the two ADK classes to be taught by Mrs. Krystn Weisheit and Mrs. Jamie Longhini. We are planning on current 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Debbie Willems, teaching the half-day am/pm classes. Mrs. Willems taught half-day kindergarten at Washington prior to moving to 1st grade.
Current 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Beth Miller, will be moving to 2nd grade to join Mrs. Jenny Coover and a to-be-determined teacher. Mrs. Jackie Esarey has been on maternity leave this school year and has resigned her position to spend time with her family.
Current 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Jenn Harris, will be moving down to 1st grade to join Mrs. Ellen Belanger and a to-be-determined teacher. Mrs. Harris previously taught 1st grade in another state.
Finally, due to enrollment numbers and space available, our instructional 4th and 5th grade program taught by Mrs. Gina Cortes will be moving to Hawthorne Elementary School next year. Mrs. Cortes and teaching assistants Mrs. Anne Schillinger and Ms. Cindy Pope will be moving with the students. Parents of the 4th grade students affected were contacted about this change several weeks ago. We will miss having Mrs. Cortes, Mrs. Schillinger, Ms. Pope, and the students as a part of our school but are happy that our neighboring school Hawthorne is welcoming them with open arms.
Staffing changes can continue to occur over the summer. I will keep you updated as I am able. We are excited to begin planning for another excellent school year.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Craig
Principal
Former Chicago Bear Visits K-2
Washington enjoys two author visits this year thanks to the PTA's partnership with Anderson's Book Shop for our two book fairs. Earlier this year, students in grades 3-5 enjoyed a visit from Chris Grabenstein, author of the Mr. Lemoncello series. Thanks to Mrs. Adrianne Karlovitz and Mrs. Judith Zapf for all of their hard work on the book fairs this year. In addition to author visits, the book fairs also fund birthday books and generate money for the PTA. Thank you also to LLC Director, Mr. Babb, for coordinating author visits.

News from the Health Office for 5th Grade Parents
Recently, 5th graders brought home an envelope with important health information. The envelope will include a letter with information regarding the health requirements for 6th grade, a physical examination form and a dental exam form.
The school nurse needs each student’s health records, so that they can begin 6th grade. Please return completed exams to the elementary school health office before Memorial Day or to the middle school after this date. The physical and immunization requirements MUST be completed and turned in by the first day of school. Please make your appointment now.
If you have any questions regarding the health requirements, please feel to contact the Health Office
