The Freshman Focus

Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center
Principal's Corner
There are lots of great things happening at the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center!! Our Fall Sports are in full swing with athletes competing and representing our community in Girls Golf, Volleyball, Football, Cross Country and Soccer. In addition, our Marching Band has been busy performing each weekend, while our Orchestra and Choir students are ramping up for their first performances of the year. We have kids engaged in a wide range of places and we know this is a powerful piece of success for our students. One other way for students to get involved is after school clubs. A full list of these clubs is available on our website and as you will see we have a wide range of opportunities for students to connect with. We want your students to be engaged and involved here at school and extra curricular activities are one of the most powerful avenues for students to connect with school. Please encourage and support your students as they express interest in getting involved. Finally, our after school study table program continues with each academy hosting at least one day where a staff member is available for support and assistance after the school day. This is a great way to get caught up or ensure your student does not get behind.
We are quickly approaching our first 9 week report cards and with that our annual student led conferences. The conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 5th and Thursday, October 6th. It is our goal to have 100% of our parents come in to review their students progress during the first 9 weeks of their freshmen year. This is a powerful tool for students to showcase what they have achieved and to continue conversations about what it takes to be successful. You should have received more detailed information from the individual academies over the last few days to complete the scheduling process. We look forward to meeting with you during this time. Some of you will also be receiving information regarding our Fall Intersession. The intersession will take place during the first week of our two week Fall Break, October 10-14. During this time we will focus on accelerating the learning of students who are behind. More detailed information on intersession will be passed along in the next few weeks for each student directly impacted. Thank you for your continued support as we work to ensure that each of our students is successful.
