One Week Down

How was your first full week of school? My week was busy. I really thought that by Friday I would be exhausted, but surprisingly, I'm feeing pretty good. I got a chance to visit some classrooms this week and I was very impressed with what I saw. I can say that Hartford School is officially open. I saw lessons on writing creative openings, students getting their first opportunity to improv in TAPS class, students learning about mixtures, and a lesson about how students can be agents of change in today's world. It seems as if everyone is settling in. I want to send out a big thank you to Ms. Tedesco for putting together such a wonderful 9/11 tribute. The students performance was wonderful. If this is any indication of what our choir will sound like this year, we are all in for a treat.

Back-To-School Night

Back-To-School Night can be stressful for teachers who hate speaking in front of a group of adults. Remember, it’s natural to be nervous and concerned about creating a good impression on the families you will have to partner with for an entire school year. One of the most important elements of a successful Back-To-School Night is letting your personality shine through so that parents can make a real connection with you as a person who cares about their children. The following link gives great tips on things that you can do to have a successful Back-To-School Night. The author of the article may look familiar.

Cafeteria Traffic

Hallway congestion due to cafeteria dismissal continues to be a problem. I am asking that all teachers walk their students to and from the cafeteria. As you are walking your students to and from the cafeteria, please remind them that there are classes taking place in the music suite area and they need to make sure they move through that area at an acceptable volume.

SGO's

All teacher SGO's need to be completed in the OnCourse system by October 15th. If you are having difficulty using the system, please see administration.

B4 4

Don't forget to RSVP if you plan on attending the first B4 4 meeting this year. It will be held this coming Monday at 3:50 in the conference room. As I stated to those staff that were invited, it is a voluntary meeting.

Does Anyone Have...

In the midst of our numerous classroom moves we are looking for a few curricular items:

  • Nancy Atwell Lessons that Change Writers
  • Calculators

If you have any of these materials or any other curriculum items, please email Kelly. We are trying to avoid making unnecessary purchases.

Extra Text Books

We have had a few staff members ask about giving text books to students without internet access. I understand that we want to make sure that our students have everything they need to complete their assignments however, we do not have enough text books to give to students to keep at home. What I recommend is to have students sign out a text book with the understanding that they must bring it back the next day. A copy of the chapter can also be given to the student to keep at home.

Have a great week everyone!
