THE VIKING
Hinesburg Community School - December 11, 2020
The Principal's Corner
Dear HCS Families:
This will be our last Viking message for 2020. The year has certainly been a challenging one for all of us, but at the same time, there have been a lot of positives to celebrate. On a daily basis, our staff has stepped up to the challenge of teaching in a COVID world by approaching everything with a growth mindset. They have made changes on top of changes, all the while focusing on learning, connection, and safety. When we walk around the building we see a lot of ways we have responded to COVID, but what has not changed is that we see happy kids and staff members doing their best to make a difference in their student's lives.
It has also been gratifying to see families adopt this same growth mindset in overcoming challenges that range from childcare and distance learning, to keeping kids connected with their peers and finding constructive ways to fill the gaps left open by the cancellation or postponement of so many outside of school activities. A positive result of this is that we are modeling resilience by showing kids that life is difficult, but by pulling together we can overcome many of the challenges life throws our way.
Finally, we want to thank PiE for moving to virtual meetings to continue supporting our students and staff. They will soon be announcing the recipients of this year's PiE Staff Grants which only happened because so many families supported their fundraising efforts. Thank you PiE and thank you HCS community!
2020 has been tough, and most of us will no doubt be happy to see it in the rearview mirror, but this will also be a year that will help define our children. The difficulties have given us the chance to show our kids how we all came together as a community to do the best we could.
Warmly,
John and Suzan
