MMA Monday Montessori Moments
October 2, 2017
A Message from our Assistant Director, Kacee Weaver
Last week our Montessori mentors, Barb Sholtz and Katie Keller Wood, from the Cincinnati Montessori Society Teacher Education Program (CMStep) came to observe the progress our adolescent program has made towards a full Montessori implementation at the secondary level. They had the following to say about our junior high teachers and program.
“We were moved by the genuine sincerity we saw from everyone at MMA. We saw tremendous dedication in trying to implement so many different aspects of training and best practices for secondary [education]. We were also moved by your commitment to inclusion, and to meeting the varied needs of each one of your students using differentiated instruction, as opposed to tracking and separation.
We were inspired by the possibilities for the new chapter being written by this team. This is built on the dedication for moving forward and continuous improvement, but it is an exciting time in the history of the adolescent program at MMA- a time of new beginnings and breaking ground. The team inspired us by how hungry everyone is in seeking and responding to our feedback. We are proud to partner and support you in your big work for the adolescents of Ogden.”
Our junior high program officially began in 2013 with a group of 30 7th graders and 2 teachers, as it grew, our need for additional Montessori-trained staff members grew with it. We now have 7 teachers in the process of becoming Montessori certified. These teachers also hold or are in the process of obtaining, their state teaching license.
We’re very proud of the dedication of each of our junior high teachers and the love of learning they share with each of their students on a daily basis. Our commitment to the Education for a Better World is more important today than in any other time in modern history. Our goals for the graduates of MMA can be found below. Two classes of 9th grade graduates have confirmed that a Montessori education in the upper grades is just as important as an early childhood and elementary education.
