Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
April 5, 2019
Welcome to April! This week started out beautifully with Father Twenty's homily at our All School Mass. I think I've used PFF at least three times already this week to remind me to "put faith first!" Thank you, Father, for that impactual story... and thanks to your dad and the little girl too!
At Tuesday's Late Start we had some really great conversation! We began with solidifying our school's norms...
- Assume positive intentions
- All voices heard
- Challenge ideas in the meeting, not after the meeting
- Be a problem solver
- Be positive with all stakeholders
- Be present and prepared
In additon, we conducted a present situation analysis, brainstorming what works and what doesn't work here at Marian. Please click here for a synopsis of the results. If after leaving the meeting, you had additional ideas for either list, don't forget that you can come to any of the Administrative members to share and we will add to our list. It really is important that we see the entire picture, as we will be utilizing this information as we begin to review/revise and devleop our new strategic plan.
Our student's RSVP efforts in the homerooms have continued to prove fruitful! We are looking forward to hearing about the information collected this past Thursday and what the student body feels is important to address as they begin to prioritize and strategize. This information will also be helpful in the school's strategic planning!
Third quarter Academic Breakfast was another great event! We had quite a few families attend and celebrate our students' accomplishments. We also had several staff members come join the festivities... thank you for being there for your students! It means a lot to them. Thanks to the cafeteria staff for the wonderful breakfast treats and beautiful presentation! Hailey Stiscak and Ky Perrone also did a great job on the piano to add to the ambiance.
We were so glad that we were able to reschedule the 6th grade visist for this year! This group of students were energetic, personable, and excited to learn more about Marian Central! Thanks to all who were involved in making this another successful event!
Finally, it's not too late to plan to come watch our Spring performance, Animal Farm. Performances are Fri., April 5th @ 7pm, Sat., April 6th @ 7pm, and Sun., April 7th @ 2pm. Come watch your students perform, work lights, sets, and produce... showing their amazing talents!
Looking ahead...
This coming week is our last full-out "Retreat-Blast!" Our Senior Overnight is Monday and TUesday and our Junior Kairos Retreat is Wednesday through Friday. Please remember that these students need to remain in retreat-mode throughout the duration of their retreat, so do not expect them to attend to any school work during their absence. Please, instead, allow the students one day for each day absence, as this is considered an excused absence. In your gradebook you should use the retreat annotation and place a zero placeholder until the student completes the missing assignment. Please pray for all of our retreatants and the retreat leaders.
Variety Show auditions will be Monday and Tuesday, on the heals of the close of the Spring production, Animal Farm. It will be exciting to see what hidden talents our student have! Are any of our faculty members going to show off their talents? It will be interesting to see!
As Spring begins, so too does the crazy weather it brings! Although April showers bring May flowers, sometimes it also brings other types of weather and so we need to be prepared to protect our students and ourselves. We will be conducting our Evacuation Drill (Fire) on Wednesday at 12:55 pm. Please make sure that you review the emergency procedures with your student so everyone knows where they should exit, and then exit quickly and quietly to your designated spot. Please also bring your red/green cards and your most current class roster to take attendance. Once you have taken attendance at your safe spot outside, please hold up your card... green indicates that you have everyone you expected to have and all are safe and red indicates that you are missing someone. Please then report the specific information to the nearest Administrator. Thursday will be our Tornado Drill at 9:00 am. You still grab your roster and red/green cards using the same procedure as the fire drill, even though you have students lined up in the halls on their knees facing the walls with their heads covered by their hands... and quiet. Being quiet in both instances is imperative if for any reason some vital instructions need to be heard in a real situation. Thank you for reviewing expectations and preparing for a quick and effective set of drills this week.
ACT testing will be on Saturday, April 13. Although most of the proctors are set, we may need at least one more volunteer to work that day. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Hilton.
Saturday evening wraps up with our annual Dinner Auction. If you haven't already gotten your ticket, please stop by the Development office... it's not too late! For more information, please see the additional infomration about this fabulous evening below.
