Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming on March 5 - 13. This year's theme is Dino-Mite: Stomp, Chomp & Read! The Book Fair will be open from 8:30 to 1:30 each day. On Friday, March 8, the fair will open at 7:45 am to allow those attending the breakfast to also shop. Don't forget to visit our guest dinosaur for a photo with your child. On Tuesday, March 12, the fair will open again from 4 - 6 pm to allow parents an opportunity to shop with their child after school and work. Flyers will be coming home this week in Tuesday Folders.
We need volunteers to help with the Book Fair. Please consider signing up for an hour or more to help the students fill out their wish lists (for grades K-2) and locate books that interest them. Click on the following link to sign up: www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4daaaa29a75-book2
There are four ways to purchase items at the fair: cash, check payable to PUE PTA, credit card, and eWallet. Parents are able to set up a fund for their child/children to shop using eWallet. Any unused money is returned to the parent/not charged to their card. To learn more, go towww.scholastic.com/bf/pleasantunionelemschool.
Join fellow students and parents at the Dino Eggs & Patties Breakfast on Friday, March 8 from 7:45 to 8:45 in the Cafeteria. All items are sold a la carte and must be paid for the morning of the breakfast. Please RSVP by March 1 to your child's teacher using the yellow form that came home on Thursday. Only one form per family is needed. If you have any questions, please ask our Media Specialist Sarah Fry. The Book Fair will also be open during this time to allow you to shop with your child. Look out for our special dinosaur guest! Parents must remain with their child until the 8:45 bell rings.
Last, we are collecting money in the All Books Coin Drive to help make sure all students can participate in the Book Fair. The class that brings in the most each day will receive a special treat. Please support our school so that each child has the opportunity to buy a book at the Book Fair.
All for Books Coin Drive
The All for Books Coin Drive takes place this week. Each day students and staff may bring in the following:
Monday - Pennies
Tuesday - Nickels
Wednesday - Dimes
Thursday - Quarters
Friday - $1 Bills
The class that brings in the most each day will receive a special treat, and the class that brings in the most for the entire week wins a pizza party. Please support our school so that each child has the opportunity to buy a book at the Book Fair.

2019/2020 Staff Intent Form
Thanks to all that have completed the 2019-20 Staff Intent Form. If you have not please complete this form by this Thursday, February 28th. Next year Wake County will continue to transition the mandated class size requirements so it is essential that you prioritize your desired grade levels as there will need to be some adjustments to some grade level assignments.
Employee Transfer Window Opens
The employee transfer window is now open February 1-May 20. Go to Employee Transfer if you plan to apply for a transfer.
Recess Time Considerations:
As much as it has rained this year and as much as the students and you would like to take the kids out, please review the outside conditions thoroughly before taking them out. Students are unlikely to stay on paved areas and once on the non-paved areas we all know what will collect on shoes let alone the muck on clothes and safety situations that will happen when students fall. Make sure to stress to students to wipe feet completely when returning to the building as the after school and Henry do not wet mop the hallways each day. We want all students to be able to go out ASAP but please be respectful of student safety first and keeping our hallways as clean as reasonably possible.

Save the Date: Spring Fling on Sunday, March 31st
The 2nd Annual PUE Spring Fling will be held on Sunday, March 31st, from 2pm-5pm. Thank you to all parents that that have already volunteered to help with making this a successful event. Go to Spring Fling to get the details how your child's class can help.
Staff will need to coordinate collection efforts with room parents. This year classrooms will receive 100% of the proceeds minus transaction fee. Last year classrooms received 50%. PTA will create displays on the lobby bulletin boards for all to see some of the auction items. Once items to be auctioned are determined a detailed list of what’s included and the value. Work with room parents to include at least 1 picture for the auction site. Need donations for tracks 1, 3, 4 by March 15 and Track 2 by March 22. Winners will be notified of specific times to pick time on the auction site as well as in each listing. There is a good possibility that there will be Disney rewards drawing this year that include 1 day park passes for volunteers who win.
Please note that the auction will go live 1 week before the Spring Fling and run 1 week after the event until Sunday, April 7. This will push all the deadlines back by one week which will give Track 2 some more time. Below are the changes/updates:
- The Auction will go live Monday, March 25th (instead of March 18)
- Information needs to be submitted via the Google Doc by: March 15 (Tracks 1, 3 and 4) and March 22 (Track 2). It was previously communicated March 8 and March 15th, respectively.
- Items will still only be accepted on Friday, March 29.
