Robinson Family Update
May 17, 2020
We are heading into our last week of school and while it is certainly not a typical end of year, your teachers have been working to create memorable, FUN virtual experiences for the kids.
Keep an eye on your classroom teacher's plans for the week and don't forget about our VIRTUAL FIELD DAY, happening tomorrow!
My best to you all as we wrap up ten weeks of online learning ~ it has been truly a team effort. Our parent and family community partnered with our teaching staff to make the best of a stressful situation. It was not easy, but we figured some things out along the way to make it easier and more manageable. Fingers crossed this is a one time situation but if it is not, we know so much more than we did 10 weeks ago! Thank you for your partnership! Jennifer
Absentee deadline for June 2 election is May 20!

#OneKirkwood One-Minute Family Challenge 2020
Missing Field Day? Our elementary physical education teachers have come up with some fun and creative ways to get the whole family moving! Be on the lookout for a one-minute family challenge sent via Schoology from your child's physical education teacher. The goal of this is to promote health, wellbeing, and physical activity for all our families. Share a photo of how your family is meeeting the challenge on our District facebook page on Monday. Or, you can tweet @kwoodschools and use #OneKirkwoodOneMinute.
HAPPY LAST WEEK ART PROJECT!
It's not too late to submit your child's artwork that celebrates our perseverance through virtual school. . This could be from a previous week or create a new sign or image celebrating the strength and kindness of our Kirkwood Community. All photos will be gathered into a #OneKirkwood district slideshow to share across all schools the last week of school.
Submit a photo by Monday, May 18 to this google folder, or just send to me and I will get it to the right spot!
Please update your children's information as part of our Annual Update!
Grab & Go Summer Meals
We are in unprecedented times. Our families and students need us now more than ever and KSD is here to help.
Our “Grab & Go” Monday-Friday breakfast and lunch program will continue throughout the summer and we are grateful for a grant from the state to continue this program for our students. Our Chartwells employees will continue to prepare meals, and KSD staff members will be at Nipher.
Starting on Wednesday, May 27, Grab & Go summer meals will switch to Monday and Wednesday pickups, from 11a-1p at Nipher. The following Monday, June 1, will be the next pick up, and then again Wednesday, June 3. This will continue on this Monday & Wednesday pick up schedule until school resumes.
In addition to our Grab & Go program, our KSD Nutrition on the Weekends (NOW) program is expanding this summer to support families in need with weekend meal support. KSD NOW Response to Summer Support will provide families with a box of food once a month:
- Wednesday, June 3
- Wednesday, July 8
- Wednesday, August 5.
The box of food will be delivered to their home on these dates. Someone will be in touch with families on estimated arrival time on those dates. Families will also receive information on how to apply for KSD NOW for the upcoming 20-21 school year.
Please reach out to your school principal, school counselor, social worker, or classroom teacher or go to the website kirkwoodschools.org/cares to sign up. This is supported financially by donations from KSD NOW.
If you are a family who needs any type of summer food support, please fill out kirkwoodschools.org/cares.
If you would like to donate to KSD NOW, please visit our online giving campaign.
From KSD SPOTLIGHT 5/17/2020: DEVICES
Given potential health concerns and the unusual circumstances of our spring, we have decided to not collect student iPads and laptops this summer, with a few exceptions. While most devices in our district move with students on a year-to-year basis, this is not the case for graduating seniors or our current eighth graders - who’ll switch from iPads to laptops for high school. Our technology team can update other student devices remotely using FileWave, our mobile device manager (MDM). For additional information about summer technology plans, view our website.
Are you NOT returning to Robinson for 2020-2021? Please let us know!
**If you have already told myself or your teacher, please still complete the form.**
Pre School Families ~ you do not need to complete this form.
Continued Building and Grounds Closures
In order to continue to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, school campuses will remain closed for activities and summer school through at least June 30. Detailed regarding virtual summer school and KECC Summer Adventure Club will be provided by your students’ school.
