Greetings Woodcrest families,
Team Work Makes the Dream Work
I hope this letter finds you all rested after the long weekend. The warmer weather was the encouragement needed to get out and enjoy the outdoors a bit longer than last week. Now, it’s back to the deep freeze.
This week, we continue our work to successfully match SLP staff from across the district with opportunities to fill the needs we are experiencing due to higher staff absences. I am grateful to have a team, both here at Woodcrest and from across the school district, so invested in the support of in-person learning. I very much appreciate the collective efforts of our SLPS community to do everything we can to provide a safe place for students to learn and teachers to teach.
As this current COVID-19 surge continues, there is no perfect solution. We remain committed to doing everything we can to keep Woodcrest open so students can continue to directly engage with teachers to learn and have access to essentials like nutritious meals.
All of the support and creativity, from within Woodcrest and from colleagues across our schools, has allowed our students to engage in uninterrupted projects and learning experiences. One great example is our fourth grade students. They are working on a Real Estate project in which they analyze the interests of a person, select a city in the United States they think would be the best fit for them, and create a presentation explaining why that region is the ideal place.
In the last two weeks, since returning from winter break, we’ve been having fun and learning a lot. We look forward to continuing these partnerships for the success of each of our Woodcrest students.
Con gratitúd,
John Franke

Conociendo a la Sra. FitzSimons
Jessica FitzSimons is a speech-language pathologist currently providing speech therapy services at Woodcrest. She has been a speech therapist for almost 12 years, but this is her first year working at Woodcrest. She loves working with students of all backgrounds.
Jessica graduated with her degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2010 and began working right away. She’s worked in both school and clinical settings in three different states. Jessica moved to Minnesota in 2016. Although she loves Minnesota, she admits that living so far away from family can be a challenge at times. Jessica lives at home with her husband and two young boys.
When not working, Jessica enjoys spending time with her family, reading books, gardening, and dreaming about faraway places to travel.
