Responsive Classrooms - Shared Practices
- Interactive Modeling—An explicit practice for teaching procedures and routines (such as those for entering and exiting the room) as well as academic and social skills (such as engaging with the text or giving and accepting feedback).
- Teacher Language—The intentional use of language to enable students to engage in their learning and develop the academic, social, and emotional skills they need to be successful in and out of school.
- Logical Consequences—A non-punitive response to misbehavior that allows teachers to set clear limits and students to fix and learn from their mistakes while maintaining their dignity.
- Interactive Learning Structures— Purposeful activities that give students opportunities to engage with content in active (hands-on) and interactive (social) ways.

COMMEMORATIVE PRINT VOTE
Artwork submissions must be emailed in a high-resolution (300 dpi+) image by Nov. 3 to Debbie.Griffey@vbschools.com and the submission email should include: • the title of the artwork and a brief description of the piece (25-word maximum); and • name of the artist, where they work within VBCPS and their title.
Approved images will be posted online for public voting to name the winning 2018 Commemorative Print. Voting will take place Nov. 17 through Dec. 1, and the winning piece will be announced at the Teacher Grants Improve Futures Celebration Dec. 6. The event, also hosted by the Virginia Beach Education Foundation, will include recognition of teachers receiving 2018 Schoolwide and Innovative Learning Grants.
Each artist whose artwork is included in the Commemorative Print vote will be invited and may bring one guest to attend the Dec. 6 event at the Sandler Center (6–8:30 p.m.). Thank you for sharing these opportunities made available through the Virginia Beach Education Foundation. For more information, email Debbie Griffey or call 263-1069.
