Reminder: Driving/Parking for Dismissal
- Howard St. is one-way during arrival/dismissal, heading north. Our friends at Music Makers have sent a reminder to their parents, as well, to help direct this flow of traffic.
- Please pull all the way forward on Howard in the pick-up line to make space for others.
- Please do not use block of 42nd in front of the church as a part of the pick-up line; this delays traffic in exiting the pick-up.
- Please do not block the driveway to the staff parking lot in picking up your child, as we have families who actively use our handicapped spot located within the parking lot.
- We have noticed many students darting across the street between parked cars on Howard, north of 42nd, to get to a parked car; please reinforce that all students need to safely cross in the crosswalk, with adult crossing guard supervision, even if you are present or awaiting in the car.
Thank you for your help in keeping all of our students safe, especially as construction, landscaping, etc. make our streets more chaotic.
Want to See Mrs. Burger as a HUMAN SUNDAE?!
We are currently about 25% of the way to the goal, so encourage your kids and families to help out with Charleston Wrap fundraiser! The grand prize for the most sales will be a gift certificate to iFLY and for every 5 items sold, students get a squishy.
Field Park's Monthly Book Focus: September = Kindness
For September, every class read the book I Walk with Vanessa by Kerascoet and discussed this sweet story's theme of kindness for all:
"This simple yet powerful picture book--from a New York Times bestselling husband-and-wife team--tells the story of one girl who inspires a community to stand up to bullying. Inspired by real events, I Walk with Vanessa explores the feelings of helplessness and anger that arise in the wake of seeing a classmate treated badly, and shows how a single act of kindness can lead to an entire community joining in to help. By choosing only pictures to tell their story, the creators underscore the idea that someone can be an ally without having to say a word. With themes of acceptance, kindness, and strength in numbers, this timeless and profound feel-good story will resonate with readers young and old." - Penguin Random House (inside leaflet)
Each month we will all read a new title and share discussions about our valued character traits and social-emotional learning here at Field Park; be on the lookout in my updates for more information! In October, we'll learn about perseverance and resilience with the story: After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) by Dan Santat. A huge thanks goes out to the Field Park PTO for funding the purchase of these books for our kids and classrooms!
Western Springs Foundation for Educational Excellence (WSFEE) - (repeated from 9/13 update)
WSFEE is a non-profit, parent-led organization that raises funds to enhance the education of our D101 students. Through approved grant requests, WSFEE has funded STEAM night, VR goggles, 3-D printers, Chicago History Museum and other field trips, running clubs and music assemblies to name just a few. WSFEE has also partnered with D101 on Renovation for Innovation, which is a district-wide multi-year initiative that supports D101’s instructional improvement plan, which includes the classroom renovations many of our children now enjoy. The grant window opened September 1, so if you have an idea for a high-impact, education-enhancing program, please submit it! (Seewww.wsfee.org/grants ). Stay tuned for more exciting news throughout the year!
