Cankton Elementary School
Cankton Elementary PreK students visited the local fire station to learn more about the job of a fireman and fire safety.
2nd Grade students at East Elementary just completed a Science unit on matter. To end the unit, students did an Oobleck Experiment. Teacher Intern Ms. Regina Hebert read the book by Dr. Seuss and led the students with the experiment.
Mrs. Rebecca Miller's 2nd-grade science class at Eunice Elementary was learning about landforms. Students were given salt dough and got to choose which landform they wanted to sculpt. Salt dough is a mixture of flour, salt, and water. Students will construct a writing about their landform.
The Eunice PD has asked Glendale Elementary to choose a student to represent our school in the Homecoming Parade. Conner Faul was chosen through a drawing of top PBIS Students to represent Glendale in the Homecoming parade. He will be one the students riding with the Chief of Police in the parade on Thursday, October 5. According to his mom, “He had an amazing time representing Glendale”!

National 4-H Week
Grand Coteau 4-H Club was excited to participate in National 4-H week. During the week the teachers and staff had treats in the lounge, the school was decorated with green balloons, there was a ‘green’ pickle sale and a school-wide green shirt day. Also during 4-H week, the members began campaigning for 4-H offices. They hung awesome campaign posters around campus. We are looking forward to a great year with all 41 of our new members!

3rd and 4th grade ELA teachers have embraced the 2nd nine week period engaging students into Guidebook 2.0 lessons.
Highland had a special visitor on Friday, September 29th. Superintendent Jenkins came to visit. He is pictured here with Mrs. Lavergne's Pre-K class.
In Social Studies, Mrs. Perkins' class is learning about ways to be a good friend, one way being sharing. They read The Rainbow Fish and discussed what happens and how we feel when we all "win" like in Habit 4.
Students made their very own Rainbow Fish with colorful scales and one shiny scale to show that they could create a "Win-Win" situation in class as well!
Highland's Breast Cancer Awareness Bulletin Board
Mrs. Gina Lanclos 4th and 5th-grade classes built 3D models of the Appalachian Mountains and Native American Housing.
Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts students had their first performance Thursday, October 12, 2017. Theater students presented their “Fall Production” to the student body at the end of the school day and to their parents, friends, and community that evening. They did a great job sharing their amazing talents!

Sunset Elementary School
Sunset Middle School Beta Club members participated in the Leadership Summit in Baton Rouge on October 5th and 6th. The mission of the National Beta Club Leadership Program is to inspire tomorrow’s leaders to achieve their personal best through service, character, and achievement. Our club was chosen as an Outstanding Leadership School, Lead Outside the Box National Qualifier, and Rapid Response National Qualifier. Special thanks to Farrah Comeaux, Christian Harris, Demarquis Milton, Ava Harris, and Marissa Howard for and outstanding job. Panther Paws to Ms. Deidra Zachery, club sponsor, for preparing our students for the Leadership Summit.
Sunset Middle School Just One Word 21st Learning Century students are decorating pumpkins for the upcoming Lights On After School program. It is scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, to support breast cancer awareness, bullying prevention, and the benefits of after-school programs at 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Washington Elementary School
Washington Elementary is currently using the TAP (The System for Teacher and Student Advancement ) model to guide instruction and increase school performance. Weekly cluster meetings are conducted to discuss instructional strategies and analyze student data.
TAP supports teacher effectiveness and student outcomes through four key elements:
