Science
We are continuing our unit on the Solar System. This week, we will be exploring the patterns shadows make throughout the day as a way of understanding Earth's position in relation to the Sun. We will also explore the relative size and distances between objects in our Solar System.
Your student should be working on his/her Solar System report and project at home. There are step-by-step directions in the green packet in their binder that describes the information, images, and formatting required to be included the written report, as well as the guidelines for the "alien" project. My goal is for students to really learn about the environmental conditions on their planet so they can think about what physical characteristics or behaviors their "alien" would need to have in order to survive on that planet. This is an opportunity for good critical thinking skills as well as creativity. The report and project are due on December 18th, at which point they will be presenting their work to their classmates.
Social Studies
We had a good review of events leading up to the American Revolution in preparation for our Julian field trip. The field trip also gave us some great hands-on experiences and insights into daily life in the original thirteen colonies. This week, we will be taking a break from Social Studies to concentrate on Science.
Your student should be studying for his/her current region of States & Capitals. We have a test this Friday (12/8), and another on Wednesday, December 20 (right before winter break).
