Special Edition - March 14, 2019
College Planning Night For Juniors
College Planning Night for 11th graders and their families will be on March 26th from 6:30 PM-7:30 PM in the MSHS Auditorium. The theme of the night is “Conquering College Costs.” Mr. Hayden Wilson from Truman State University will be the guest speaker. Eileen’s Cookies will be provided.
Upcoming College Visit Opportunities
Permission slips for the April College Visit Field Trips are available in the Counseling Center. Students must be passing all classes to attend. Seats for these trips are filled on a first come, first served basis. The following visits will be offered to all students:
UNL- April 3rd; This visit is for first-generation college students only (students whose parents have not gone to college).
UNO - April 17th
Metro Community College- April 18th; This visit is for students in the Construction Day Program
Concordia University- April 24th

Attention Sophomores: Avenue Scholars Opportunity:
Attention Sophomores! Are you interested in careers in Trades and Manufacturing or Auto Tech/Diesel/Transportation and interested in attending Metro Community College tuition-FREE?? We are actively recruiting sophomores who will commit to this program for their junior and senior years of high school. If interested, please visit Mrs. Lemons, Avenue Scholars Career Coach, in the Counseling Center or email klemons@avescholars.org for details!
College of St. Mary Summer Academy:
College of Saint Mary is hosting two Summer Academies focused on STEAM for Latina and African-American women entering their sophomore or junior year of high school. STEAM focuses on science, technology, engineering, art, and math and students will be provided with a real-life college experience. If interested students should complete the online application at www.CSM.edu/summer-academies. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2019.
Spring Break Counseling Center Hours:
The MSHS Counseling Center will be open for college counseling during the following hours over spring break:
Monday, March 18th: 8:00 AM-12 PM
Wednesday, March: 20th 12:00 PM-4 PM
Thursday, March 21st: 8:00 AM-12 PM
If you need help with your college plans, financial aid, or scholarships, feel free to drop in during these open hours.
