Staff Spotlight - Autumn McKay

Autumn teaches our 3rd grade students, works with uBoost, and is the high school advisor extraordinare!

I grew up in Loganville, Georgia. I went to Shorter College, now University, and received my degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been teaching at Mosaica Online for 2 years now! I have had the opportunity of teaching in many areas of Mosaica, and I have enjoyed each one!

My sweet husband, Seth, and I met in 2007, and got married in June 2010. Soon after that, he accepted a job in Oregon. So we decided to move across the country. We enjoyed the adventure, but not all of the rain! While we were in Oregon, we adopted a kitten that we named Stripey.

Luckily, Seth was offered a job in Savannah, Georgia this past summer. So we--including Stripey--got to move back across the country closer to family and sunshine! We love it so much that we decided to build a house! It will be finished in late March!

We appreciate you Autumn!

Club Corner

Art Club:
Stained glass is a style of art that was once unique to architecture, but has since been used by many artisans. Large cathedrals built centuries ago and churches built even to this day communicate through images painted into stained glass. Home architecture also adopted the use of stained glass in the Arts and Crafts style. Here is a piece of artwork made by Elementary Art Club member Eli Brazaski, inspired by stained glass! Book Club:

  • The high school book club has voted on a new book to read. It is Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. This novel was written in 2010 and is Oliver’s debut novel. It was on the New York Times bestseller list as well as being the 2010 "Best Young Adult Paranormal/Fantasy Novel".

For the next several weeks, we will highlight a "Testing Tip" each week, as our students in all locations gear up for State Testing!!!!

o If you finish early, check to make sure you have answered all questions.

  • Key Words:
    • Find key words or phrases in the question that will help you choose the correct answer.
    • Try using your eraser to lightly mark key words and phrases…gently brush them off when you’re done!

Data Discussion...

Winter composite scores have been calculated based on Scantron Performance Series data. We will review this data in grade level meetings next week, but keep in mind the following information:

  • Grades 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8 had the most difficulty with the Non Fiction portion of the Reading assessment, while both grades 3 and 5 struggled more with the Long Passage subtest.

  • Grades 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8 had the most difficulty with the Data Analysis & Probability subtest on the Math assessment. While 3rd graders struggled with both Number & Operations and Measurement, and 4th graders had difficulty with the Algebra subtest.

What strategies will you work into your upcoming lessons to revisit and/or strengthen these areas for your classes?
