Seesaw: The Learning Journal Overview
Seesaw's Main Purpose
Seesaw's main purpose is to provide a space for students to collect their work and reflect. At any time, a student can take a photo or add the link to something they are proud of whether it be their math manipulatives organized correctly, a read-aloud of a short story or their own writing, or a photo of their science lab work. Then, they can either record their audio or type a reflection on the piece. Other students and the teacher have the option to like or comment on the student's work. If desired, a teacher can invite parents to view, like, and comment on their child's work as well.
SeeSaw in the Classroom
- Once students complete the work at a center, they take a photo and explain their thinking by typing, drawing, or by recording their voices. The teacher can assess time on task as well as student understanding at any time during the day from their own device and use the data to plan future instruction accordingly.
- As a teacher, post newsletters, charts, tips, or reference sheets to help with homework.
- "Experts," whether it be the teacher or a few students who have mastered a concept, can create tutorials or record examples of problem solving. Students can go onto Seesaw from home and review the concepts they need extra support for.
- Students can use the drawing tool or the video tool to record work as a mini-assessment of skills.
- Post an exit ticket/problem of the day, etc. and have students make a copy and draw or record their answers.
Tip: Move Seesaw to a different center each day/week to check understanding of all activities
