Message from Mrs. Myszkowski- 5/25/18
Hello all,
Just like that math is over! :( Math is a subject that some people absolutely love or a subject that some people just don't like. I tried to use lots of different ways to teach the material- some ideas worked but others need some adjusting. Just like anything else, I am always learning as a teacher, too. I hope that I was able to help each student find a love, even a small teeny-tiny love, for the subject!
If you requested the STAR report, it is coming home today as promised. If students are working throughout the summer and need my help, I told them to Remind message me (fastest way) or email me, and I will do my best to respond in a timely manner. Please remember that these reports do not define any student, It is just ONE test. Standards in the "still needs practice" section are just that...standards that students need to continue to work on.
Thank you, students, for reminding me how great it is to be a teacher! Good luck at the middle school- you are going to love it!
I will continue my journey here at Lincoln next year- I will be joining the 4th grade team! I am really excited to join such a fantastic team and go back to the grade level where I began.
Thanks again for a fabulous year! I hope everyone has a great summer!

No homework the rest of year!
Letter about Tests and Grades
September 22, 2017
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As you are aware, we took the first topic test in math this week. As I send this first test home, I want to take this time to explain how the grading process of topic tests will work throughout the year.
Topic tests are a way to assess their level of understanding of the entire collection of skills and standards. Once the tests are given, students who did not pass the test showing mastery or proficiency with a grade of an A or a B, will be pulled for review and remediation of the necessary skills and standards in a small group with Mrs. Kickert, our 5th grade aide. During this time she will clarify any misconceptions, answer any questions, and reteach skills and standards that were missed from the test. These students will then receive an additional opportunity to show proficiency of the skills. Students retaking the test will be able to bring their grade up to proficiency with a grade of an 80%, B. If students do not reach proficiency level of understanding, they will receive the grade from the retake.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.
Thank you,
Mrs. Myszkowski

Grade Scale
30% Formatives/Quizzes
20% Homework/Classwork
The above policy weights the grades based on the type of assignment throughout each quarter. This system ensures each student's quarterly grades reflect his/her independent understanding of 5th grade math curriculum taught within that quarter.

**UPDATED**Missing Assignment Policy
- Unless absent or otherwise stated, all assigned work is due the following school day.
- Homework CAN BE the result of an assignment not completed in class.
- When returning from an absence, a student will find his or her missed work on their desk(homeroom) or in class bin. According to the Lincoln Handbook, a student will be allotted the same number of days to complete and turn in the work equaling the days absent. For example, if a student is absent two days, they have two days after they return to turn in absent work. Work will not be given ahead of time for vacations. These students will receive missed work upon their return and will also have the number of days absent to return completed work. Missing policy goes into affect when number of allotted days to complete work is up.
- Turning in absent or last work is each student’s responsibility. Students have their own usernames/passwords for Power School.
- For every three missing assignments in a class, students will be given a lunch detention.
- Projects will be the only exception to the above procedure. If a project is late, the grade will be lowered a complete letter grade for each day that it is late.
- If an assignment is turned in late, students will deduct 1 point from their conduct/behavior grade.(Conduct/behavior grade is comprised of responsibility as well as behavior)
- If an assignment is one day late, it will receive full credit. (Current 5th grade policy)
- If an assignment is turned in after the allotted extra day but before the cut-off for the subject, the total score will be deducted by 10% or by 1 point depending on the amount of total points per assignment.
- Math- late assignments will no longer be accepted once the topic test(skill is complete) is given. They will be recorded as missing and a grade of 0.
