Note from the Principal
Hello Cozier Families,
Happy New Year! I hope winter break provided you and your family with an opportunity to disconnect, relax a bit and celebrate the end of 2020 – a year that, no matter how you look at it, will ALWAYs be remembered. This past week, we were happy to see some of our students return to their classrooms after the break. We’ll welcome back our second graders on Thursday and soon our 3-5 graders will return to face to face learning. It is exciting to witness our building come alive with little people and voices. We see smiles in the eyes of our kids and teachers feel relief to be able to teach “in real life” again. We continue to practice a high level of safety protocols and are committed to mitigating risk as much as possible. If you have questions about students returning to school, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Students Return to School
We are excited to welcome back our second grade learners on Thursday, January 14th. Students will follow the same schedule as our K-1 kids – 8:00-1:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesday will continue to be a home learning day for all students.
Also, on January 25th our littlest learners will begin their school journey! Promise K, a full-time program for children who will be starting kindergarten in Fall 2021, will once again be at Cozier. We are excited to see these little friends – especially because we have so many siblings this year! Welcome back little Cozier Cougars!
Running Late?
We all have those running late mornings! We totally understand! If your kiddo is learning at Cozier and you’re running late, please pull up to the front of the building on Lincoln Street and walk your child to the doors. There’s a sign in sheet (with clean pens!) so that we can be sure to have accurate attendance. Thanks for helping us with this.
Bellingham Schools COVID dashboard
A few of you have asked about positive cases within the Bellingham School District. To help track cases and share up to date information, the District has created a COVID-19 dashboard – click here to access. This is where you’ll find information regarding positive cases in each building. In each case, we have taken guidance from the Whatcom County Health Department and acted in a way that prevented transmission and kept all students and staff safe. Please let me know if you have any questions about this or would like to further discuss.
Attendance Reminders
A reminder that daily attendance is being taken by classroom teachers. Our office team is reviewing absences each day and reaching out to families to ensure that every child has the tools needed to engage in online learning. Being marked “present” means that your child has participated in live learning, watched a video post on Seesaw or engaged in an activity on Seesaw.
We know that absences happen, just like they do when we are learning in our building. When your child is absent due to illness, appointment or a family event, please call the office at 360.676.6410 (press option 1 for attendance) so that we can excuse the absence. Thank you for your help with this – and please reach out if questions.
School Communication
We are working hard to keep you informed, yet not overwhelm you with emails, calls and messages. In addition to your classroom communication, you can expect the following school-based communication from me:
- School Newsletters – I will send out a monthly newsletter with school-wide info. Typically, you can expect this in your inbox the first weekend of the month.
- Facebook – if you have not already, like us at @carlcozierelementary (this is different than the PTA Facebook page). You’ll find a quick updates, links and community resources on our FB page.
- School Website – Please periodically check our school website (https://carlcozier.bellinghamschools.org/) for updates and information. We also post our Friday Assembly videos, past newsletters, and Cozier Conversation slides to the Family section of the website. It’s a great place to catch up on school-related happenings.
