Dear Sandymount Families ~
We are so excited to welcome our students and staff back into the building for the 2021-2022 school year. It was wonderful to see all the smiling faces last week at our Open House. Please save the date for our 1st- 5th grades Back to School Night for parents on September 14th.
Below you will find some new information regarding the use of Google Classrooms, Laptops, and Quarantine support.
Google Classrooms will continue to be utilized this school year however, it will not be an instructional platform. Resources will be added throughout the year as well as assignments for any students who are out of school due to quarantine. Please be sure your child is able to log onto the computer and navigate the Google Classroom. Students in grades PK-2 may utilize learning packets in lieu of the Google Classroom.
One to One Laptops
This year all students Kindergarten through 5th grade will have an assigned student laptop. CCPS Technology Services is processing laptops and hopes to have this in place for all students by late fall.
We are working with human resources to hire a quarantine success coach. This instructional assistant will work with the classroom teachers to support and coordinate services for any quarantined student.

Important Dismissal Change Information
EMAILS ARE NOT AN ACCEPTABLE FORM OF NOTIFICATION FOR DISMISSAL CHANGES. All changes must be in written form, signed by the parent/guardian and sent to school with your student. This change has been in effect since since the 2020-2021 school year.
Signing Students In/Out Of School
Students arriving after 9:30 AM will be considered tardy and a parent/guardian is required to sign the student in. *As we did last year, the office staff will meet parents at the front doors to sign students in/out until schools open to visitors.
Handwritten notes must be sent to school for:
- Parents who want to change a child’s dismissal for the day. (early dismissal, change in mode of PM transportation, appointments, etc.)
- If someone other than a parent or legal guardian will be picking up your child, please indicate their name in your note. It is a common misconception that the emergency contacts listed on your emergency card can remove a child from school without written permission. The emergency contact names are listed for the schools purpose in the event of an emergency when the parent/guardian is unable to be reached.
If transportation changes need to be made during the school day and qualifies as a true emergency, please call the front office for further instruction.

Sandymount PTA Information
The PTA is excited to welcome back all our students and hope that our teachers, staff, students, and families all have a great school year! This year we have planned many fun activities and look forward to the support from our Sandymount families.

The online class directory for Sandymount is run through Classroom Parent. Be sure to join so that you can communicate with your students’ classmates.
The PTA is always welcoming new members, and we would love to have you join and/or volunteer for one of our many opportunities. If interested, please go to www.sandymountpta.org. Our first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 16th at 7pm (this meeting will be virtual; a link will be shared prior to the meeting). We hope to see you there!

Consent & Release
Permission to Photograph, Videotape or Audiotape
Throughout the school year, the Carroll County Public School System frequently covers school activities and may use your child’s photograph, video image, or voice for educational, informational, or public relations purposes, with or without identification by name.
If you do not wish to have your child’s voice reproduced on tape or to have his/her image appear in such things as a video or a photograph, or on the school or school system website or social media, please notify the school principal in writing. It is assumed that parents and guardians consent to their children being audiotaped, photographed, videotaped, or having their image placed on a school website or social media by the school system unless such notification is received.
There are also occasions when the media cover certain school events (such as when a government leader visits a school). If you do not wish to have your child’s name or likeness published by the media, you should address your concerns directly to the school involved so that the media is so advised. Please be advised that the school system has no control over the media when they are covering activities such as sporting events and musical programs that are open to the public.
Use of Student Work on Websites or in Publications
There may be times throughout the year when the Carroll County Public School System wishes to display student work on school websites, social media, or in publications. If you do not wish to have your child’s art, poetry, writing, etc. appear on school websites, social media, or in publications, please notify the school principal in writing. It is assumed that parents and guardians consent to their child’s work being displayed on school websites, social media, or in publications unless such notification is received.
