Colt Corner
Colleyville Middle School
August 27, 2021
Colts,
Thank you for another solid week at CMS. Next week we kick off college season with some fun spirit days! Our Colts will have the opportunity to request music that represents their favorite college/university and branch of the armed forces. The music will be played on select days during passing periods. Check out the theme for each day in the table below and encourage your Colt to have fun with our spirit days. This is just another way that we promote a fun environment coupling high levels of academic and extracurricular engagement at Colleyville Middle School.
We look forward to seeing our CMS families for Curriculum Night, Tuesday, August 31st. Please see below for more details. If your family is unable to attend in person, we encourage you to access the Curriculum Night Teacher Presentations document (found below) where you will find each teacher’s presentation. These presentations will be live Tuesday night.
Thank you for supporting CMS as we continue to Build an Excellent School Together. Enjoy the weekend!

SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program Preview
The adolescent years are marked by a roller-coaster ride of emotions—difficulty for youths, their parents, and educators. It is easy to misread depression as normal adolescent turmoil; however, depression (among the most common of mental illnesses) appears to be occurring at a much earlier age. Depression—which is treatable—is the leading risk factor for suicide. To proactively address these issues, GCISD offers depression awareness and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program.
The SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program is designed for all secondary students grades 6-12. The GCISD School Health Advisory Committee has previewed and recommended these programs for all GCISD secondary schools.
A parent preview of the program will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. and at 6:00 p.m. at the GCISD Administration Building – Board Room, 3051 Ira E. Woods, Grapevine, Texas 76051.
At CMS, students will view SOS this Fall, and details on the date will be shared in advance by our counseling department.
For more information, including information about how to opt your student out of the program, please click here for English or Spanish.
Aug. 30-Sept. 3
Lockers: This past Wednesday, counselors emailed each 6th grader who reported having a problem opening his/her locker. This email verified each student’s locker number, gave students a working combination that was tested by custodians this past week, and provided a link to an instructional video on opening lockers. The video is also linked below.
Counselors are now working to issue lockers to 7th and 8th grade students who requested them.

FIRST LEGO League
Colleyville Middle School Students have the opportunity to apply to become
a member of our 2021 FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) Robotics team. Each
team will consist of up to 10 students that will be our Colleyville Middle
competition teams. Students will need to commit to being on the team for
the entire Fall Semester.
Remote Conferencing
GCISD would like to inform families that, beginning on Monday, August 23, remote conferencing will be available for students who are unable to attend school in-person because they are in quarantine as the result of being a close contact or test-positive for COVID-19.
Approved by the Texas Education Agency, remote conferencing is a mechanism by which online instruction can be provided for those who are temporarily away from campus for reasons related to COVID-19. It is important to remember this is not GCISD Online, a temporary remote learning option for elementary students that families were made aware of last week.
Please click here for frequently asked questions regarding remote conferencing. More detailed information, including a complete list of FAQs, is available from the TEA by clicking here.
COVID-19 Protocols and Testing Center
Throughout the summer, GCISD has continued to monitor updated health guidance and recommendations to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, the District has monitored positive cases for students and staff that participated in summer programs. This continued monitoring has helped inform the District’s 2021-2022 COVID-19 protocols. More information about the protocols was sent last week, and can be read here.
GCISD COVID-19 Testing Center
The GCISD COVID-19 Testing Center at Mustang Panther Stadium is currently open for symptomatic students or staff.
The testing center hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. No appointment is needed from 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.; however, please email covidtesting@gcisd.net to let the district know that you will be coming. From 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., appointments should be made using the same email address listed above.
Cafeteria Volunteers
The GCISD Nutrition Services Department is looking for volunteers! Come get to know the students while serving them a nutritious lunch in the school cafeteria. You can volunteer at your child's school or any school in the district. You must be registered as a volunteer in the district, or get signed up as a volunteer today so you can join the amazing kitchen staff serving the students. Please see the flyer for details and a link to sign up!
Cafeteria Menus
GCISD school cafeteria follows a calendar-cycle menu at breakfast and lunch. This menu begins on September 13th, 2021. During the first 4 weeks of school, all schools will follow a simplified lunch menu to allow all students to adjust to the new school year and to re-familiarize themselves with the cafeteria and their PIN number. The simplified menus can be viewed online using our menu system MealViewer. Printable copies of all menus can be downloaded here. If you have questions please contact child.nutrition@gcisd.net. GCISD Nutrition Services looks forward to serving your family in the upcoming school year!
