January 2020
Message From the Principal
Dear families,
I hope that you were able to rest and enjoy family time during our winter break. Here are some District updates:
RETURN TO SCHOOL PLANNING
On Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2020, Governor Kate Brown issued a letter to the directors of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Oregon Department of Education (ODE) stating that as of Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, the health metrics guiding schools’ return to in-person learning should be considered advisory rather than mandatory. Our school district leadership has worked diligently over break, determining what this means for our students in HSD. District communication went out earlier and will continue at least biweekly, if not more frequently, based on available information and the health situation at the time.
PLAYGROUNDS AND FIELDS ARE NOW OPEN
School playgrounds and open fields are now available for community use. Families are welcome to use playgrounds and open fields during* and after school hours and do so at their own risk. (*Once schools resume in-person learning for students, playgrounds and open fields will be off-limits to the community during school hours.)
Turf fields and stadiums remain closed for any community use.
Tennis courts are open for use by Hillsboro Parks and Recreation and in accordance with existing agreements.
Playground equipment will not be sanitized by school staff, so visitors are encouraged to take health and safety precautions.
Follow state guidelines on outdoor recreation activities and face coverings.
Wash hands before and after visiting the playground.
Maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet from people outside your immediate household.
Bring hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes for use on surfaces that you touch.
Stay home if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
Symptoms include cough, fever and shortness of breath.
I hope you all have a safe and positive month of January. Please reach out to your teachers or call the school if you need our assistance with anything.

Inclement Weather
Hazardous road conditions during inclement weather can impact our buses’ ability to access their normal meal delivery routes. Therefore, if there are days when our buses cannot travel safely throughout our district, we may activate inclement weather bus routes in some areas.
Transportation department has divided our district into zones. In some of these zones, there are inclement weather bus routes that are different than regular bus routes. Check the map on our Inclement Weather webpage to identify your zone, and see the list of inclement weather bus routes for each zone. If the zone in which your home is located is not listed, your bus stop for meal pick-up will remain the same, even if inclement weather bus routes are activated.
We will announce inclement weather bus route activations on FlashAlert Newswire, on our District website, and social media sites if they are necessary. Please contact Transportation with any questions, 503-844-1123.
