"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Dear Parents and Staff
This Sunday we have the opportunity to spoil our mums for all of the wonderful things that they have done, and continue to do, for us. Sometimes we take our mums for granted because they are always there for us, doing everything they can to ensure that we are safe and happy, but on this one day of the year it is our opportunity to turn the focus around and ensure that they are aware of just how important they are and how much we love them.
Our school celebration of Mothers started yesterday with our Mothers’ Day Mass and Breakfast. I hope all mums enjoyed the beautiful Mass and Blessing from Fr Quynh and the array of food and drinks at our Breakfast. When Joanita Stapleton checked with the bakery about our delivery at 6.15am yesterday she was told that they had thought the delivery was for Thursday rather than Wednesday and they did not have all of the ham and cheese filled croissants that we had ordered, ready for delivery. This was despite Joanita re-confirming the order and delivery date on Tuesday evening. Needless to say, panic quickly set in. Due to Joanita’s resourcefulness and amazing organizational skills and the willingness of the staff to pitch in, a very pleasant, although slightly unusual, range of goodies was ready for serving as the mums and children arrived at 7.30am. Thank you to all of the staff for ensuring that a very enjoyable breakfast was shared by all.
I wish all mums a very relaxing day of being pampered and appreciated by all of their children. My mum has asked me for a Dockers win in the footy but I’m not sure I’ll be able to arrange this for her. Being a Carlton supporter I don’t say this very often but for my mum’s sake…..
FEDERAL ELECTION
I’m sure, if you’re like me, you’ve just about had enough of all of the election diatribe that we have had to endure over the past few weeks. This is, however, a very important time for us in Catholic Education as it affords us the opportunity to put forward our needs at both a school and system level. Approximately 20% of all students in Western Australia are enrolled in Catholic Schools and, as such, our voice needs to be heard. Catholic Education Western Australia have produced brochures regarding the upcoming election and its impact on our system. We have these available for parents to view in reception so please avail yourself of the opportunity of being fully informed by coming in to read or requesting a copy from the office staff.
WEDDING BELLS!
Miss Naomi Fimmano came to school this week wearing a new item of jewellery as last Saturday she became engaged to Shaun Martin. Congratulations to both Noami and Shaun at this very special time for them and their families. We wish them a wonderful life ahead full of many happy memories.
CONGRATULATIONS
Special congratulations to Ruhansi Abeywickrama (Year 6M) who has received the All Saints College Academic Scholarship to commence in Year 7 next year through to the end of 2025. A very large pool of students applied for this prestigious scholarship which makes Ruhansi’s selection even more meritorious. Congratulations, again, Ruhansi on a most outstanding achievement.

The Canteen menu has been updated on our school website with the Term 2 & 3 menu. We will be conducting a final trial of this tomorrow and, if there are any issues we will contact families via SMS. Otherwise we look forward to receiving your on-line orders from next Monday.

MUSIC NEWS
This term we are preparing music for the Performing Arts Festival in Term 3.
We will be making contact with the students who have registered an interest to perform in the individual instrumental section of the Festival. We would like to listen to your child perform and as much as possible we will get them to perform their piece in their music lesson so that they get used to performing in front of an audience and how to walk on the stage and be ready to perform. We will also follow up with you regarding copies of the music to send into the Festival office and payment of the entry fee. We look forward to hearing music from these budding musicians.
In class, the children are continuing to refine their musical notation skills (rhythm and melody) and revising reading and playing rhythm patterns and melodies, as well as creating them as a class group.

PARENT TV
There is no doubt you have noticed that childhood anxiety is on the rise! Every other day there is a new article published about it and how it is causing behavioural problems that are impacting greatly on schools.
- Did you know that in Australia anxiety affects 1 in 5 children between the ages of 4 and 17?
- Did you know that anxiety is often expressed as anger and aggression?
- Did you know that school children as young as 5 are self-harming?
We know principals and teachers are struggling to cope with these issues at school, so what can we do to combat this problem that is affecting the outcomes for our kids so greatly?
A study published by Yale University has suggested that the parents – not their anxious children – should participate in therapy to teach them new ways to respond to their child’s anxiety, and the results are astounding!
Read more about this study on the ParentTV
The study taught parents the skills to help their kids face their fears instead of protecting them. The parents were taught to make their kids feel heard, say things to build their confidence, and teach and support them to tolerate their anxiety and that they don’t need to be rescued from it.
Seventy per cent of children with anxiety whose parents participated in the study reported having no anxiety at the study’s end.
Read more about this study on the link below.
So now that we know the incredible difference a parent’s response makes on a child’s anxiety, how can schools help equip parents with the right information to better understand childhood anxiety and teach parents to correctly respond to their kids?
Here at ParentTV we have just released a course for parents, teachers and educators trying to help anxious children, in partnership with Dr Jodie Lowinger of the Sydney Anxiety Clinic.
- What is anxiety?
- How to know when your child’s anxiety is becoming a problem
- Helping your child understand their anxiety
- Parent strategies to help reduce your child’s anxiety and help them feel strong and confident
- The impact of body and mind connection in trying to help with anxiety
- Reducing anxiety in kids with mindfulness and meditation
- Techniques and therapies used to treat childhood anxiety
Imagine the difference it would make in your school community if both parents and teachers were on the same team when it came to behaviour and mental health...the kid's team wins!
We hope you enjoy this week's special share pack edition.

The good news is that while there is no cure for anxiety it is very treatable and there are many strategies that have been proven to help manage and ease anxiety in children.
In this video (from the ParentTV course 'Anxiety and Our Kids') Dr Jodie Lowinger of the Sydney Anxiety Clinic talks us through what parents need to know about childhood anxiety.
