News from the Lancaster County School District, March 2023

Big picture

Lancaster County Community,

If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk. When you give him the milk, he'll probably ask you for a straw. When he's finished, he'll ask for a napkin. Then he will want to look in the mirror to make sure he doesn't have a milk mustache. When he looks in the mirror, he might notice his hair needs a trim. So he will probably ask for a pair of scissors...

Sound familiar? Whether it's your own child, a friend or a book you read recently we can all relate to what happens when you give a mouse a cookie. Such a fun book series!

Project for Youth Art Month

If you happened to drive down Main Street in Lancaster anytime the last few days, you may have noticed our students' painted banners lining the streets!

This is a Kennedy Center partnership between LCSD, Lancaster County Council of the Arts, and City of Lancaster. Every year, the visual art teacher at each school submits art entries from their students with the designated theme. This year's theme is "Under the Sea." Bob's Backstreet Studio judges the artwork and selects the top designs for elementary, middle, and high school. The chosen students, along with other classmates, come to paint their design on a banner at the Lancaster Multipurpose Building. Once the banners are all painted the elementary designs are displayed on the light poles of Downtown Main Street and the middle/high school designs are displayed on the large cube frames in front of the Spring House/Arts Council on Gay Street.

The artwork will be displayed in March as a part of Youth Art Month.
