Arctic Blast
Glacier Ridge Elementary School 01.13.22
Dear Glacier Ridge Families,
Although this week has been short it has been a bit of a rollercoaster. The weather has gone from bitter cold to balmy, we have had many absences and we have had updated COVID guidelines shared with us then to families midweek. So we celebrate the added days off to pause, refresh and return on Tuesday.
We held our monthly PTA meeting on Tuesday and they have provided some communication to you here in the Blast.
Have a wonderful long weekend,
Mr. Jacobsen and Mrs. Reinhardt

Coming Soon.... Kids Heart Challenge
As always the American Heart Association thanks our Glacier Ridge students and families for their support.
It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's SUPER Library!
Here is information about TWO Winter Reading Programs:
Want to get a head start on our SUPER Reading Incentive? Students who complete reading activities and get BINGO on our "Winter Break Reading Bingo" board, can get a complimentary ticket to a Chicago Wolves game. Bingo boards and Wolves Game order forms (on the back) were sent home with every student in December. Call or mail in the Wolves Game order form for free tickets for every child that completed BINGO for game dates from January through April.
The Crystal Lake Public Library Winter Reading Program (Waddle You Read?) runs from January 17 through March 13. ANY student who attends school in Crystal Lake (along with their siblings) can participate in the Public Library Program. Information was presented during Encore classes on Thursday and Reading Logs were sent home. After 600 minutes, students earn a book and a stuffed animal! For more information, go to https://www.clpl.org/.
Minutes will count for BOTH reading programs. For now, KEEP READING!
Cold Weather Policies
During these very cold days please be sure your child comes to school dressed in warm clothing, hats, gloves, scarves, boots, etc. Although it might not be warm enough to go outside every day, whenever we can, we do get the children outside for some fresh air. The District policies on cold weather are as follows: 15 degrees or warmer – unlimited time outdoors; 0 – 15 degrees - 20 minutes outdoors; Below 0 - remain indoors
ParentVue
ParentVue is a secure Internet-based communications tool connected to the District 47 student database that allows parents/guardians to participate more directly in their students' learning and school lives. Use ParentVue to see student schedules, communicate with teachers, view report cards, pay student fees, and certain assessment information, such as Fastbridge.
We encourage ALL parents/guardians to activate their ParentVue account if they have not already done so. If you need assistance, please contact us at Glacier Ridge @ 815-444-4850, or contact the district Help Desk at hd@d47.org or 815.788.5080.

Encore for Remote Learners
All remote learners can go to this link for Encore Classes. bit.ly/grencoreremote <-- This link is a choice board for each Encore Class. There are hundreds of options for your child to try, enjoy, and come back again. Your child can send messages to Encore Teachers and can post photos of activities on Seesaw. Each Encore Teacher's email address is listed, too. Please email if you have any questions.
Submit Student Vaccination Status
If your child has received the COVID-19 vaccine, please provide proof of vaccination by dropping off a copy of your child's vaccination record at the school’s main office or by scanning and emailing it to the school. (Visit the D47 website for your school’s medical records email address.) Student vaccination status is requested to ensure proper protocols are followed in the event of a COVID-19 exposure or outbreak. If deemed a close contact, students who have been vaccinated will NOT need to quarantine unless they are symptomatic or test positive for COVID-19. If a student is vaccinated and the district does not have proof of vaccination on file, the student will be treated as if they were unvaccinated and be subject to contact tracing and quarantine.
