Nativism

Nativism is the policy of protecting the interests of native inhabitants against those of immigrants. It returned in the 1920's because there were high restrictions on Southern and Eastern Europeans immigrating over to the United States. Immigrants were seen not only as undesirable to native-born Americans, but also were seen to be stealing natives' jobs and threatening their "peaceful way of living". 3 nativism laws were the Emergency Quota Act or Emergency immigration act of 1921, the Immigration act of 1924, and the National Origins Act of 1924.
