PES Eagle Express
Upcoming Events & Information for Pleasantdale Families
A Note from the Principal's Office
September 2, 2018
Dear PES Families,
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for last wee's Curriculum Night. We had a wonderful turnout! Thank you also to the PTO and Cub Scouts for joining us in kicking the year off.
I wanted to share with you a few reminders and helpful information as we start the school year.
- Bus Tags have arrived! On Tuesday, we will be attaching color-coded bus tags to student backpacks. This tag will identify them as riders of a particular bus, but will have no other identifying information. As we look to increase student safety and procedural efficiencies, we are implementing the use of a triple check for all students riding the bus home. This trip check includes students matching their bus tag with the bus number/color, Bus Captains checking that all students boarding a bus belong on that bus, and Bus Drivers doing a final confirmation of its passengers. Please do not remove the bus tag. If a replacement tag is needed, please contact the front office.
- PES Clubs and Activities Brochure will be released later this week. This brochure outlines the various opportunities available to our students. This brochure will also be posted on our website for your reference throughout the year.
- Pick Up Patrol is off and running. Thank you to all the families who have activated and updated their child's account. Some parents have yet to update the account from last year. We kindly ask that you make sure your child's default pick up plan is correct. This is especially important if your child's plans have changed since last year (eg. last year the child was picked up and this year they are riding the bus). If you need assistance please contact our front office team.
- School Pictures Day is taking place on Friday, September 7th with picture make-ups scheduled for Friday, October 5th. (This is a change from the printed calendar you received.)
- Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an important component of our day. As promised during last week's Curriculum Night, there is a short video describing SEL in this newsletter.
For our students,

Exploring with Paint
Preschoolers unleash creativity in many ways during Centers, including a stop at the Paint Center.
A Plan to Reach Our Goals
2nd Graders know it's not enough to set a goal. Instead, they need a plan to reach that goal.
Reminders:
- All visitors to PES will be required to provide a State-issued ID in order to gain access to our school. Please make sure you have your ID with you before coming to the school.
- All of School Street is a School Zone which means that all cell phone use is prohibited. This includes hands-free devices.
- For the safety of all, and ease of traffic flow, parents are asked not to exit their vehicle along the Kiss and Go Lane during morning drop off. Students are to exit on the curbside eliminating pedestrian traffic in the passing lane. Parents who wish to assist their child out of the car, are asked to park in the lot and walk them across the lot.
- Preschool parents are welcome to park in the lot when dropping off students. Alternatively, at 9am, when buses have departed PES, parents of preschool students may park in the circle drive area outside the preschool doors to drop off their preschoolers.
