Thanks for a Great Fair!
Our 4-H program and county fair would not be successful without the many volunteers, sponsors, and donations. Please remember to personally thank someone that helped this year. Our volunteers are a vital part of the 4-H program, and many of the vents at fair and throughout the year would not be possible without their dedication.
If you received a trophy or bonus auction premium, get those thank you notes sent! A few brief sentences about your experience are all it take sot show your appreciation. We want to continue the positive support from all of our donors. So make sure to say Thanks!
Particularly this year I want to say a sincere thanks to everyone for supporting me through the week! I wouldn't have been able to manage without you all! Thank you again!

NEW FOR 2019!! We will NO LONGER be using Career Portfolios as a form of year end records and judging for your 4-H experience. The state level changed to the Achievement Application last year and your 4-H Council has voted to follow along with this format for the county level.
There are two different forms, one for Juniors (8-14) and Seniors (15+). They are somewhat similar to the 4-H Story or a resume. But we encourage you to be creative and use your strengths to capture your 4-H experience. If possible we would love these to be done digitally. So simply fill out the forms and email them back to me at stacey.keys@unl.edu. Because this can be done digitally there is no need for a special binder or tabs.
To continue with our county awards we are also give you a one page limit to describe why you should get the county awards you are applying for this year. You will be allowed to pick 3 County Awards & 2 Addition Awards to apply for. You will only be allowed to win the county award once per age division.
Clover Kids are not required to do an Achievement Application but we have a similar version that they are more than welcome to fill out for the experience.
Please check with your 4-H Club leaders to see what your policy is for completing the Achievement Application and receiving your premium money from fair.
For more information go to https://4h.unl.edu/achievement-application or contact Stacey at the office.

Club of the Month
N|150 Celebration - Flat Herbie Tour the Town
Flat Herbie is here to celebrate this milestone. Cut out Herbie and make him part of your community by taking him on a tour of your town. Snap a picture of him at local events, favorite landmarks, or 4-H activities. Upload the pictures to your social media channels with #N150Herbie or email us at nebraska4h@unl.edu. We encourage everyone (students, faculty, staff, 4-H families, and alumni) to get in on the fun with Flat Herbie throughout 2019!
The first 12 individuals to participate and tag #thurston4h will receive a N|150 Lighted Bouncy Ball.
4-H Special Edition
Norfolk Daily News has produced a newspaper insert to be published during National 4-H week in October promoting 4-H. This will be the 44th edition. 4-H members and 4-H Alumni are invited to submit articles for the 2019 Edition. This year’s theme is “4-H Strong”.
The first deadline is August 14 to have their articles into the Norfolk Daily News.
Are you are a 4-H Alumni? Maybe this is the year you share one of your favorite memories of being in 4-H and how it made you strong or stronger! Or perhaps you have a volunteer who has not written for the 4-H Special Edition in the last 7 years who might want to write an article. 4-H members will be given priority to have their articles included in the 4-H Special Edition, however last year there was extra space for staff, alumni, leaders and parents to write articles. Consider having a youth write about a new project or a new event your 4-H program implemented in 2019.

State Fair Livestock Health Requirements
IMPORTANT:
Due to several Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) outbreaks in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Nebraska all susceptible livestock (beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, llamas, and alpacas) including horses coming to the Nebraska State Fair from Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Nebraska need a 48 hour Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) to enter the fairgrounds. That CVI must also contain the federal VS statement: "The animals represented on the CVI have not originated from premises or area under quarantine for Vesicular Stomatitis or a premises on which Vesicular Stomatitis has been diagnosed in the last (30) days. I have examined the animals and found no signs of Vesicular Stomatitis." Animals will be observed once on the grounds. All horses will be examined daily by a veterinarian!
So all 4-H and FFA animals will need to have a 48 hour CVI completed in 2019.
