K.O. Knudson Academy of the Arts

September 18, 2023

From Bob Gerye, Interim Principal

This will mark my last week as Interim Principal at KO. It is anticipated that the new principal will be in place sometime between the 22nd and 29th of September.

It has been such a pleasure to work with our kids this school year, after having worked with them briefly last spring. I wish every one of them a successful and goals focused future as they head to high school and post-secondary education/training!

KO is a special place...please continue your support of our kids and staff as you start a new journey with your new principal!

SCHOOLWIDE FUNDRAISER

PARENTS: We need your help!

Please make sure your child has created an Instaraise account and that they have shared our fundraiser with at least 20 adult family members or family friends.

Adult family and friends can donate of purchase items from anywhere, not just Las Vegas. Items purchased get shipped directly to the person.

Please help us raise student generated funds so we can plan special incentives and events for our students.

KO SCHOOLWIDE FUNDRAISER: KO Knudson schoolwide (instaraise.com)

Our school wide fundraiser has been extended until September 24th. If students did not set up accounts in PAWS, you can help them set up accounts now.

Donations of $100 earn you a 3-day paid getaway in Las Vegas or Florida! Check out details here: https://shareliferewards.org/SlimCode?code=CWACTCODE

All students need to have 20-30 friends and family contacts (names, emails, & phone numbers) added to their account so they can share their fundraiser with family near and far.

Student Success Update

  • Ms. Fernando has administered attendance and behavior contracts to students who have more than five tardies this year. Please continue to encourage your child to arrive at class on-time and be in attendance at school each day. We currently have a 93.83% attendance rate at Knudson. We are looking forward to celebrating the grade level with the highest attendance average on the next First Friday-October 6th, 2023.
  • We are so proud of our students who have been attending school in Standard Student Attire. Keep up the great work!
  • Students have been doing a great job ensuring their student ID is displayed once they enter the campus. Please continue to ensure they keep up the great work!
  • Currently, we have 26% of students enrolled in PE this quarter who are not dressing out for class. If your child does not dress out for PE, this is considered a minor behavior. Please visit the KO webstore to purchase your child's PE uniform. They may coordinate uniform pickup with their PE teacher.

Tardy = Detention

In between each class period, we host a tardy lockout. Students who are tardy must report to the Quad or any Campus Security Monitor (CSM) to receive their detention slip. This detention slip serves as the students pass to class. They should give it to their teacher upon entering class. The after-school detention must be served within a week, or the student will receive lunch detention. After-school detention is held in the cafeteria until 3:00 p.m. Please arrive at 3:00 p.m. to pick up your child.

Lunch detention will be held on Tuesday & Thursday of each week. Our first lunch detention will be held on Tuesday, September 26th, 2023. Our students with the most unserved after-school detentions will be hosted in silent lunch first. Every child will receive a hot meal, they will eat lunch silently in room 701, cell phones will not be permitted, and they will engage in a quick time-management activity with Mr. Ariza. You should receive a Parentlink message when your child is assigned a silent lunch. You will also receive a ParentLink once your child is assigned a silent lunch detention. Remember, to ATTEND, LEARN & STRIVE FOR FIVE...we want our students to have less than five tardies and absences this school year! GO COUGARS!

IDs. SSA. On. Every day.

Thank you parents for helping your child remember to enter campus with their ID on. We appreciate your continued support.

Remember, that for student safety, if students forget their ID they will have a new one printed to be worn that day. Each new ID printed is $5 and a lanyard is $1. If students do not pay at that time, the fee will be placed on their account which will need to be paid as soon as possible.

Standard Student Attire (SSA)

Please remember that K.O. Knudson Academy is a Standard School Attire (SSA) school. SSA guidelines are found below to assist you with back-to-school shopping. Most department stores sell these items and we currently have a special package available on our website at the following link: https://bit.ly/3z52Zh3

If students are dress coded and borrow KO clothing, they need to return it at the end of the day to the Cafeteria. Otherwise, their account will be charged $10 per article of clothing. Thank you for making sure students come to campus dressed appropriately.
