The NEW Placerita Fall 2020 Online Learning Schedule
This Week at Placerita 8.30.20
This Week at Placerita 8/30/20
Good Evening Placerita Families…
Welcome to week four of the school year. We have several items to review this evening.
First, the District has made some very small adjustments to our weekly schedule. The new schedule is shown in the newsletter above. There is also a black and white PDF version just below it so if you would like to print the schedule it is easy to read.
Our Back-to-School evening is this Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM. This will be a virtual event with a YouTube premiere on the Placerita TV Channel. The opening will only be a few minutes and then you will be able to go to a page where you can view all your teachers' messages for the evening. If you miss the opening at 7:00 it will be available there for you for several days. On Thursday, during period 2, we are going to have teachers work with students to complete their class information. It is laid out in the order they will move through the Back-to-School Night website that Mr. Kass is creating for us. See the sample below. For our students who may have both Explorers team teachers and a teacher from a different team, we put a section for team name for students to fill out to help parents navigate that on the website. Every student will have an assignment for 2nd period Thursday to complete their schedule and give it to their parents for Thursday evening. Below is a copy of what that form will look like. The Website is currently under construction but will be complete before the premiere on Thursday.
If you got a notice this past week about your student’s immunizations please take a look in Infinite Campus in the health tab and see what is needed. If you have completed them then follow the directions in the letter. If you did not receive a letter then you are all good.
Please take a look below at information about how your students can check out a book from the library as well as the latest information from Miner Morning TV.
Finally, if you are a 7th grade parent and are interested in participating in our School Site Council please click HERE to see the form and enter your information.
That’s it for tonight. Have a good week.
If you are interested in participating on the Site Council please complete the form. Thanks!
SCV Libraries still working for students
Students, parents, and teachers in your school can access FREE resources with a library card, including: live tutoring, test preparation, language classes and more. All of these services can be found on our eLibrary.
Physical library materials are still available through our Curbside Service, Monday-Friday, 10:00am-5:00pm or Saturday 1:00pm-4:00pm. You can also request your materials to be placed in our new Locker system, which can be accessed 24/7!
Furthermore, we can help teachers fulfill reading lists for their classes by purchasing additional copies of required reading material or pulling from our current collection.

Kid Flix Productions
Kid Flix is Placerita's award winning video production club. Even in the online learning times, we are finding ways to keep Kid Flix going. Kid Flix is responsible for our Remote Miner Morning TV broadcast, our Miner Details Podcast and will enter into a variety of contests. Students will learn how to put a feature story together, edit their productions and produce a newscast.
Our meetings will be held on Monday afternoons on Zoom from 3 pm to 4 pm. Students interested in joining Kid Flix should join our Google Classroom group using the code i6uaemo. Zoom information will be posted there.
Parents, if you want to follow our broadcasts, follow us on YouTube at Placerita TV: https://www.youtube.com/user/placeritakidflix

Questions about Technology
If you are having any type of tech issues please call the main school line at 661-259-1551 and we will give you a time to come in to work on fixing it.
In order to clarify a few questions that we have regarding attendance and students being present on either Zoom or Google Meet let's discuss a couple things. First, for students to check in to be counted present they should be present on screen for the teacher to see them. Second, they should mute their mic unless class is in a discussion mode, direct questions are being asked or if they are greeting or saying hi to their friends during designated times during class. It is important to remember that participation is a very important part of any learning environment. In some classes like PE, dance, art or music, participation through visual connection is a part of the grade. We would not want anyone’s grade to be lowered for participation or be counted absent because they were not visually participating. Some teachers are having students respond in the chat to show presence in class. Please encourage your students to participate fully so they can get all the credit they need for participation. We understand there are some exceptions and teachers are working with students in those areas already.
