The OWL Newsletter
Otto Petersen Elementary School
Dear Families,
I want to wish the U.S. Military Veterans within our community, on staff, and in our families a very sincere thank you and Happy Veterans' Day. I first handedly understand the sacrifice made of every family and individual to continue to defend and uphold the freedoms of our great nation. Thank you!
In honor of Veterans' Day, there is no school on Thursday, November 11th. Additionally, Friday, November 12th is a no school day for students, as staff will be using this time for preparations, planning, catch up, and reset.
Virtual Family/Teacher conferences are on Monday and Tuesday, November 22nd and 23rd. Sign up links for a Parent/Teacher conferences went out this week and I encourage all families to sign up for a time to meet with your child's teacher. Our goal is to have 100% attendance and connection so that we can keep lines of communication and support open between the homes and school. Your child's progress report will be sent home during the week of 11/15 for your review. Between now and then, if you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher!
The 6th Grade music performances are tonight, November 10th! Please see the below information on your child's class performance and call times. Mr. Wilkins has been working hard with your children to be ready for this special performance. The students have conducted a full walk through of the performance and are ready to showcase their work!
We are celebrating and recognizing National Native American Heritage month! This is a chance to learn about and recognize the unique ancestry, traditions, and contributions that the Indigenous people and communities make today and have made throughout history.
Thank you for your continued support from home and for working with our school personnel to provide a safe, enriching and student-focused place of learning for your children.
Respectfully,
Jenneca Crocker

Thanksgiving Baskets: This year, the high school leadership class will be putting together food baskets for SSD students and families. If you are interested in a basket, don't hesitate to contact me at OPE by November 18th.
Scappoose School District has partnered with St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank to continue the backpack program. This is a program to provide nonperishable food to families in need. The food is distributed discreetly, once a week at school. If your family is experiencing food insecurities, please reach out to your student's school counselor, social worker, or care coordinator. There is limited capacity for distribution at school, so please reach out as soon as you can. Picking up food from St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank is also an option for anyone in the community. Currently, they are open Tuesday and Thursday 1-3 pm. (51555 SW Old Portland Rd, Scappoose, OR 97056)
