Wimmer's Weekly
English IV, Writing Skills/Technical Writing, & Yearbook
Week 19 (January 15-19)
Well, our three day weekend turned out to be a four day weekend...I hope everyone stayed safe and warm!
All three classes are in for a few really busy weeks here in Room 115. Please let me know if you ever have any concerns or questions.
English IV
This week we will finish up our study of Petrachan, Shakepearean, and Spenserian sonnets. Last week we analyzed six different sonnets and worked very hard to understand the intricacies of these poems. There will be a quiz on Thursday, then each class will participate in a group writing of a sonnet. This is a fun one-day project that allows the students to exhibit their sonnet skills, while class team-building. We will then read "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" by Christopher Marlowe and "The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd" by Sir Walter Raleigh.
Writing Skills/Technical Writing
This week my Writing Skills/Technical Writing students will be taking a diagnostic exam (taken from previously released STAAR exams). This helps me to develop an individualized program for them to work on throughout the semester, and helps me better prepare them for their next STAAR EOC English I or II exam (held in April).
Yearbook
We are deep in the deadline weeds at this moment. We have 80 pages due mid-February. Staff will be taking and editing photos, designing and editing spreads, and writing and editing features.
Additionally, I am still looking for staffers to participate in UIL Journalism events. I will have more on this for the students, but if you would like to know more about it, please don't hesitate to email me with questions.
